My band just met with our recording guy for the first time. I've never actually had real studio time before, so it's pretty exciting. Gotta get good at drumming with a click track going.

You're the drummer..... you are supposed to be the click track. If the producer/engineer guy is insisting on that, fire him immediately.

The random dude I had beers with last Friday afternoon thought it was criminal that I am unacquainted with 60s/70s prog rock. He proclaims that Gentle Giant was the best of the musically gifted/complex prog rock. There should be a few of you who can comment on that proclamation. What say you?

Not to take thunder from krafsters post, but I was wondering on 5AF what's the general consensus on Zeppelin?

I know it depends on what type of music you like, but IMO I think they're so freaking good. I'm younger (not trying to be a Richard) so I haven't heard all of their less popular songs, which is what Led heds say you *have* to listen to.

If you enjoy rock music you have to enjoy Zeppelin. Unless you are overly hung up on them taking credit for other's material...

Click tracks ain't go no feel or swing.

Having said that, the 808 drum machine did have some swing. :slug:

Hey, I consider myself a Zep fan. But that sort of conduct definitely figures in the reckoning.

Zeppelin is great. Only a handful of terrible tracks, in my opinion. Yes, they copied/stole a lot of it...but few music acts are truly original anyway.

Funny that someone should mention 60-70s prog rock. I've been listening to a lot of old Genesis and Yes lately. Great stuff, if you like that sort of thing. Foxtrot is great album.

Kind of random, but our local rock station in Philly (WMMR) has an annual March madness album event. This year, "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd" was up against Sgt. Peppers in the 16-1 seeding. Skynyrd won, then defeated Zenyatta Mondatta, then defeated Are You Experienced. The respected DJ, Pierre Robert, was losing his frigging mind today on the air. So good.

I agree with the first sentence, and only the first sentence. GG is about the only prog group I can't stand to listen to.

I'm becoming a huge Cage the Elephant fan. Loved their first album, and didn't listen to them for a few years but their latest album is really good. Plus they're good live as well, lead singer doesn't have a great voice but they can put on a show.

That's what I was thinking. I love blues but the pentatonic scales are all the same. It doesn't bother me but I see what you're saying.

Fave zep song is travelin riverside blues. Pretty sure plant took "squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg" from someone but don't quote me on that.

Absolutely! I'm always pleased when I shuffle my library and find good song after good song.

Mentioned this before and it got no love, so I'm posting it again here. WYEP played one of his songs and I was hooked, went on to get his newest album "Rain Plans" and this is one of the best albums I've heard top to bottom in a long time. Check him out. Israel Nash
