Schecter makes some sexy-ass guitars. A good friend of mine has one (with one of those string-through-body bridges), and the only reason I haven't stolen it from him is because he's left-handed. lol

So a bit of a story.
Years ago, I bought one of Bruce Hornsby's live albums, listened to it a few times and then haven't thought of it since. I enjoy most of his music, beginning with the radio hits in the mid-80s, but also appreciated his later work and his time with the Dead.
One of the tracks came up on shuffle the other day, and I'd been listening to his new album (or the singles from it; No Resolve with James Mercer of the Shins is excellent, with a Tony Banks early 80s keyboard vibe, but I digress).
One song I kept coming back to was Fortunate Son/Comfortably Numb.
I remember back in 2011 when I bought the album that was a very strange combination of songs; I didn't know Fortunate Son was an original composition (Comfortably Numb is the Pink Floyd song) at the time. The phrasing of Comfortably Numb sounded very familiar, but different from the original, but I couldn't quite place it.
I wondered how the hell did he marry those two songs together? So off to Google I went...and found probably the most perfect article that explained the whole song, how Comfortably Numb fit into it (perfectly by the way), and why the phrasing sounded familiar to me.
Hornsby had produced/played on an early 90s Robbie Robertson solo album, and was heading to Spain to play in his band at a festival. Roger Waters had heard about this, and asked if Bruce could sing/play the Gilmour vocal parts. Here's the crazy thing: Hornsby goes to Robertson and asked "What is this Comfortably Numb song?" Robbie hadn't heard of it (Bruce obviously hadn't either, as he was heavily into jazz when The Wall came out). He asked his construction workers, working on his studio near Williamsburg, VA, and they obviously had heard of it and raved about the song. So off Bruce goes to the local record store to buy the album, but they were sold out. The store did have the Roger Waters live album of the Wall at the Berlin Wall, which features Van Morrison singing the Gilmour parts of Comfortably Numb:
So as Bruce prepared to sing Comfortably Numb, the only recorded version he had ready access to was this version...so he naturally picked up the inflections from Van the Man.
I won't bore anyone with what Fortunate Son is about, but it's really well summed up here: https://www.dailypress.com/entertainmen ... story.html

Thanks for this. Big fan of Pink Floyd and Comfortably Numb is one of my favorites. It's interesting that Robertson didn't hear of the song before considering Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Garth Hudson joined Van Morrison to perform it during that concert.Bruce Hornsby story

Yeah, things were pretty bad between Robertson and Helm and the others. I’m sure he went out of his way to not listen to that concert - which is pretty good. I think I got it via Columbia or BMG music club, as Pink Floyd wasn’t available on those services back in the day.

That is a great post DG! Hornsby is one of the underrated musical geniuses of our time, imo. And all around great dude.

Wow.
What the hell show was that? Could they find an even more disinterested audience of stiffs? Did they just come out of court or something? A little overdressed for a pop singer.
