Hmm.

Quincy Jones wanted a bucket of money to license 'Soul Bossa Nova' for the first Austin Powers movie. The clearance people were like, "Look, we don't have that much money," and Q was all, "Don't care." The song was vitally important to the movie they were creating (Myers essentially wrote the whole vibe of the movie thinking of this song, and the film director's wife - the lovely Susanna Hoffs - was brought on board to write the music for the 'psychedelic scene break' shorts to maintain that Ultra Lounge feel), that the music supervisor eventually committed to something like half the film's music budget for this one song. (May have even been more than that, it's been years since I tried to recall this story) Jones wasn't convinced, as he thought the whole movie idea was stupid, and as I recall upped his quote. The filmmakers agreed, and got the rights.

Flash forward a couple years, Q appears in the opening sequence of the sequel. I always thought that was kinda bummy. "You're movie idea is dumb, and you have a dumb face.......... what's this? It's a major blockbuster success, and there's going to be a sequel? Why yes, I'd love to do a cameo."

Also, when The Beatles formed, neither John nor Paul could play piano. I'll not have anyone besmirching their musicianship. Except for Ringo.

Jennifer confirmed the Richard-Marlon hookup, which Quincy Jones first mentioned in a pretty wild Vulture interview. As Q put it, Brando would "f*** anything. Anything! He'd f*** a mailbox. James Baldwin. Richard Pryor. Marvin Gaye." The allegation sent the Internet into a frenzy.

Jennifer tells TMZ ... Richard would have no shame about Quincy's comments. She says the comedic legend was always very open about his bisexuality with friends, and documented it extensively in diaries. Jennifer says she'll publish them later this year.

As for Richard hooking up with Brando -- she says, "It was the '70s! Drugs were still good, especially quaaludes. If you did enough cocaine, you'd f*** a radiator and send it flowers in the morning."

This is what I wanted to post before I had a brainfart. Very odd.

There used to be tube version, with the music overlayed on film of the Brixton riots; sadly gone.

Quincy Jones: Miles Davis was a wonderful guy. Wonderful. Couldn’t play trumpet for ****, but he taught me the secret of teleportation.
Interviewer: Teleportation is impossible.
Quincy Jones (suddenly 20 feet away): Oh yeah?

Different video than I am referring to. Plus that’s a poor version. ;)

It's International Clash Day

I saw a few people mention this on FB today. Is there a number or a reference that ties February 8 to International Clash Day?

I have no idea. It's probably just marketing.

Gogol Bordello for "Rock n Roll Suicide" is an interesting choice.

I know they've been around for awhile, but Great Van Fleet seemingly blew up overnight it feels like. All over the radio, spotify, etc.

I have a ton of Q’s stuff from his earliest records as a bandleader to Soul Bossa Nostra- you can throw any of it on and be very entertained.

I did not know he was such a bad mf’er. Loved the interview.

It's funny how rock radio colors perception so wildly. This is Creedence Clearwater Revival's best song, in every sense of the term, fun lyrics, several time and tempo changes with a mesmerizing 4 1/2 minute instrumental section, yet this tune is completely absent from the one CCR album everyone owns.

^ damn straight. When I read your post, I thought "He better mean Ramble Tamble."

For the record, that was the only CCR record my dad owned. I used to look at it and wonder about the guy on the bike...

It also has a long jam version of Heard it through the grapevine...

Thanks for sharing this...with my Spotify premium account, I've really been trying to get more into deep cuts on albums.

This is one I found today, had no idea Billy Joel wrote a song like this.
