I knew a German in FL named Wolfgang and he went by Wolfie/Wolfy (not sure which spelling was used) and he's probably in his 60's now.

The only Wolfgang I know is ~60 and, like so many Wolfgangs, goes by Wolle.

So no "f" in the nickname?

Nope. I could be totally wrong here, but I'm guessing you'd find a lot of Wolfis in Southern Germany and Austria, while Wolle is more common in the North.

I'm honestly surprised the YouTube feed worked for me, I thought P+ was going to be the exclusive ad-free distrib of the full show in the US. On Saturday morning I had downloaded the app and was going to start the free trial to watch the concert, and decided to check YT on a whim, and there was the show.

Anything rootsy/country/tejano/latin rock is up my alley for sure.

They're more on the harder end but two of my favorite bands sort of in this genre are The Iguanas out of New Orleans, and The Blazers who are out of LA, peripherally related to Los Lobos, and I stumbled upon as an opening act in Boston about 25 years ago. Don't even remember who the headliner was. Zydeco something.

Listened to the Mendocino album by Sir Douglas quintet and it was fantastic, don't know how I missed on Doug Sahm in the past, but what a talent. Check it out

They Might Be Giants are coming to Mr. Smalls this weekend on two different dates. They were previously sold out but they opened up some tickets today.

Really trying to save money for this upcoming Nashville trip, but knowing that this is a 30th anniversary show for Flood, I might have to break down and buy a ticket.

This is a continuation of the work begun in the 90s with the Anthology project. The Cirque du Soliel show, the reissues/remasters, etc. All of it is an outgrowth of the cataloging effort that was begun when Harrison was still alive.

There's not much that can be done with the older recordings, so I think Rubber Soul will be the oldest remaster that brings any improvement in sonic character.

I think Rubber Soul will be it, too. The technique that Giles Martin used for Revolver was developed by Peter Jackson for use in Get Back (and probably the WW1 film he made a few years ago).

The new mix from Giles Martin and Sam Okell goes beyond what they did with previous deluxe editions, thanks to the “de-mixing” technology developed by the audio team led by Emile de la Rey at Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films Productions Ltd. It was devised for Get Back, to separate individual Beatle voices from the audio murk of the original film footage. Remember the scene where they cut through the cafeteria clatter to focus on John and Paul’s voices, getting emotional over George, with a microphone planted in a flowerpot? That’s what they do to Ringo’s drum kit. It sounds amazing.

As Martin explains, “There’s no one who’s getting audio even close as to what Peter Jackson’s guys can do. The funny thing, they won’t let anyone else use it — they may do eventually. But Peter’s such a big Beatles fan, he’s willing to help out. I quite like that in a way, that the Beatles are still using technologies that no one else is using. It’s really groundbreaking. The simplest way I can explain it: It’s like you giving me a cake, and then me going back to you about an hour later with flour, eggs, sugar, and all the ingredients to that cake, that all haven’t got any cake mix left on them.”

“Taxman,” for example, was famously recorded with the drums, bass, and rhythm guitar all on one track. The new tech allows separate tracks for Ringo’s kick drum, toms, hi-hats, etc. Nothing is being altered, obviously — but now we can hear more of what the lads played in the room that day. You can hear details buried way down in the mix, like the acoustic guitar in “For No One,” or the finger snaps in “Here, There, and Everywhere.”
