About Led Zeppelin: I know this might be considered blasphemy, but first Led Zeppelin albums were the early 90s box sets, so I struggle to know which tracks were on which albums. Shameful, but true.

However, III has special meaning to me as my dad has it on original vinyl, and he and I used to listen to that all the time. It's a great chill out record, believe it or not. Since I've been Loving You is just a slow burn...

Hard to rank, because I love them all so much, but when you have since I've been loving you on any album, that album goes up.

This live DVD is one of my favorite concert DVDs ever. A must get.

No Quarter - Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Unledded https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002MGY5G/re ... WCbHPHFCVD

Doesn't get much better than these. Man, I get emotional watching these.

So you have the first pressing where all of the original songwriters are properly credited. :slug: ;)

TIL Black Flag got their first public show by lying about what they played. Typically it took months in advance to get a date at Polliwog Park, where the show took place. The "Air Force Big Band" ended up cancelling because of a few members that were sick. Enter Black Flag. Instead of saying they were a punk band, they said they were "a light jazz band that played Fleetwood Mac covers."

The crowd started throwing food at the band after about a minute, and a riot broke out about 20 minutes into the show.

Woodstock50 cancelled.
“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival. But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees."

The statement goes on, "As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival. As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved.”

Evidently, Peter Gabriel dropped all of his music on streaming services about a year ago. I thought I had just gone looking for Sledgehammer and could only find covers or a weird soundtrack version of it. Guess it was over a year ago, at least before it got to Google Play.

Good stuff.

I've been reading Phil Collins' autobiography (don't judge), and it's actually pretty good so far. The gated reverb drum sound that his early solo albums are known for actually originated on a Gabriel solo album, specifically the track Intruder.

Of course, I fell into a wormhole with early Genesis and Collins' solo work. Lots of great stuff on YouTube, of course, including an entire concert from their 2007 reunion tour. It was weird watching something in HD with no one in the audience holding up phones. The iPhone had just been announced, but hadn't gained much popularity yet.

:fist:

I remember trying to find Sledgehammer a couple years ago, and it was this weird, shtty version from Live Aid or something. I was so excited when I realized he was finally on there last year.

I lost my CD copy of So in college, and hadn't listened to it in full in 20 years. Really excellent.

We just finished watching the Ken Burns documentary "Jazz". It was extraordinary, which is to be expected with Burns. Wynton Marsalis is a goddamn national treasure. Every time he appeared on screen, the already excellent commentary got approximately 46% better.

I've been reading Phil Collins' autobiography (don't judge), and it's actually pretty good so far. The gated reverb drum sound that his early solo albums are known for actually originated on a Gabriel solo album, specifically the track Intruder.
And it was an accident. The studio mic that was used for talkaback to the booth was open and it picked up the drums; the mic had heavy compression (since it was just intended for talkback), but the board had a noise gate active, and so it created a reverb that had like 0 ms decay. It was just off as soon as the transient died. They all dug the sound, and thus was born 'gated reverb', and the sound of 80s music was set.

Also, apparently Collins was the drummer playing on that track.

Very good read, much better than I anticipated. Collins reads the audiobook, if you are into such things (Audible 30 day trial).

I guess tickets for Camp Anarchy, a three day punk/craft beer fest in Ohio, aren't going so well and are now listed on Groupon. I was somewhat interested at first, but I wasn't paying almost $100 a day for tickets, parking and additional fees.

But seeing The Damned, Pennywise, OFF! and Suicidal Tendencies for $15? It might be an almost three hour drive but I'm sold. OFF! rarely tours and I believe Suicidal does most of their touring on the west coast.
