post the fattest groove you can think of (or not¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Sort of low hanging fruits, but for a reason.

This is a special case: For the Cirque du Soliel show LOVE (featuring the music of The Beatles) they did a mashup of Within You, Without You using the drums from Tomorrow Never Knows. WY,WY is one of my favorite songs, period, and this is probably my favorite version of it.

But to me, the origin story of 'groove' is the proto-rock/big band/swing jazz of the 40s and into the 50s. This isn't so much low-hanging fruit as it is citrus that has already fallen from the tree.

This is more my speed in terms of what I listen to daily, but I can understand someone not immediately thinking of a 9/8 prog metal song when they hear 'groove'.

Honorable mention for Taylor Hawkins, generally.

Seeing toto live was a weird experience after only knowing Rosanna and Africa and line. That's not the band they are and it made for an interesting show back in the day

The drum pattern from Rosanna it's like a top 5 groove all drummers should know. It's Levee/Fool In The Rain territory.

Here's a fun one for this (rainy in SoCal) Thursday:

What is the most mismatched concert bill you ever saw? (Or heard of) Like, the Beastie Boys opened for Madonna. Radiohead opened for Alanis Morrisette. Festivals don't count, I want goofy headliner-opener combos.

I saw Living Colour open for SWANS in NJ in the late 80's. Two very different crowds of people attended.

The Promise Ring opened for Bad Religion at Club Laga in 2000, right at that time before crust punks became extinct. All the people that tried to look homeless were cursing the stage and throwing things at the emo band.

this isn't precisely what you're looking for but it's in the ballpark
1978 i saw the stones at old cleveland stadium. we were very close to the stage. kansas was the main opening act and if 100 people gave a damn about their set i'd be surprised.
they tried to get the crowd to sing along with 'carry on my wayward son' and you could hear this guy about twenty feet closer to stage than we were yelling **** carry on my wayward son, like the band had run over his dog

I always wondered if there were actual Kansas fans outside of those 2 hit songs they had.

kansas is antithetical to the worlds greatest rock and roll band

Surely there has to be some weird county fair lineups out there.

Kansas is the worst band I've seen live. Pearl jam for the stones? (I hate pearl jam)

With 50 years of history this sounds silly. But neither band had really hit the big time yet in '75 (although Peart was already in Rush); if I had been a teenager or young 20-something (instead of 2) in 1975 I think this would've been an awesome bill to see live.

Look for footage of Smashmouth playing Rock Star in front of friends-and-family crowds of dozens of people horfing corn dogs and funnels cakes if you want satisfaction here. It's just.............. I think most musicians would crush one of their own gonads in a vice to have a single song that's remembered by lots of people 20+ years later. But for these guys it's like you're forcing them run their own dogs over with combine harvesters.

My most recent experience with county fair shows was Conejo Valley Days where the musical act was Chevy Metal. Which is basically Foo Fighters not playing Foo Fighters songs. (Seriously, one year Chevy Metal was Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins (RIP), Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffe). I think they even had the lady who plays cello on the mellow songs from In Your Honor sit in with them once.

I saw Styx at Clearfield county fair, I snuck backstage and went into a trailer and one of the members was literally in his undies when I went in on the band. It was weird
