Yes, it was announced only five or six months after T Hawk died, end of summer, but I'm not sure if that's when she actually passed. Ugh. When Hawk died I really did think DG was gonna call time on the whole FF thing, and then to dogpile that with Mama Grohl's passing.... the fact that they didn't even really take a hiatus is kinda bonkers. Like AC/DC releasing "Back In Black" only six months after losing Bon Scott. It's like "Jesus, guys, you've earned a bit of a break. Chill out a while."
I haven't listened to the full thing of the new record yet, but what I've heard so far is pretty good. Has an early-era vibe to me, like the first couple records after Shifty joined the band (which is my favorite era of their music). I've also noted to Mrs Tif that the drums sound different to my ears. I don't mean it like, "Booo, it's not Taylor! The drumming is different." No, I mean the actual sonic character of the drums, the way they were mic'd and recorded and how the performance was captured sounds different to me. I don't know where this one was recorded, but I know they worked with Greg Kurstin again; they can record percussion on plastic kits with paper heads if they want, so long as they do the annual Hanukkah Sessions every December.
