I found a YouTube channel a little bit ago where this guy takes those old folio books and tries to learn the material as transcribed. Some of the book are so wrong; the Extreme II: Pornograffitti book in particular was hilariously bad, like physically impossible bad.

Should say the GFPM books like the one NTP posted were usually pretty solid. The off-brand ones however were often just silly, like why-bother bad.

New Steely Dan book coming out... Looks fun.

A literary and visual exploration of the songs of Steely Dan.

Steely Dan’s songs are exercises in fictional world-building. No one else in the classic-rock canon has conjured a more vivid cast of rogues and heroes, creeps and schmucks, lovers and dreamers and cold-blooded operators—or imbued their characters with so much humanity. Pulling from history, lived experience, pulp fiction, the lore of the counterculture, and their own darkly comic imaginations, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker summoned protagonists who seemed like fully formed people with complicated pasts, scars they don’t talk about, delusions and desires and memories they can’t shake. From Rikki to Dr. Wu, Hoops McCann to Kid Charlemagne, Franny from NYU to the Woolly Man without a Face, every name is a locked-room mystery, beguiling listeners and earning the band an exceptionally passionate and ever-growing cult fandom.

We went to The Attic in Millvale for Record Store Day this morning. Got there at 6:20 AM and were 108th in line. Got some good stuff including a Violent Femmes 40th anniversary picture disc and Pixies Doolittle Live. And of course my little swiftie needed the Taylor album.

sadly, not this year. My wife won't be down for it with having a newborn in October. So I'll see him on the next one lol.

Understandable. Daughter threw a curve ball and asked to come to this one, so it will be a family affair!

Anyone ever sit in the loge section at the Pete? L225 looks like it's pretty private with good views, is there a downside with those seats?

I've tried so hard to get into that band and I finally have come to the conclusion that while I recognize their talent, I find the music to be horrendous. Maybe something will change down the road

Horrendous is probably too strong, it's just boring to me

Honestly, I'd say boring is probably 1,000x worse than horrendous.

Yeah, I can appreciate the music, but when I say boring, I'm not getting anything out of the tones musically. To me, it sounds like it wants to erupt into something bigger but is stuck in the same repeated pattern. I find their vocals with the music to be more of a downer than uplifting

Re 'boring'

Yeah, that's my point. Even if you think it sucks, at least it made an impression on you. I think, artistically, that's much more valuable than being empty calories.

Soccer Mommy is playing a free show at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater in August. Kind of weird but I’m in.
