Neil Sedaka started posting mini-concerts on Youtube when the pandemic started, and he is continuing to do so. They don't get a ton of views but I always enjoy seeing them posted.

@Gaucho, my nine year old got in the car yesterday morning to go to school. She immediately hits the voice assist button and goes "Play My Old School!" Proud of her.

These last two Billy strings shows from Alabama (4/14-15) are on a different level. Seems like they got some new pedals which is really adding to the experience. It's been incredible watching them get better as a band and they are full on go time right now. That doing things right from 4/15 is insane. These may be the best two shows they've played so far and that's saying something. The next 4 shows are streamed free on nugs and you can get a free trial.

Starts about 28 min in , but the entire show is ridiculous, listen to them all. That Dylan cover, dang

Damnit, got things turned around, meant to post All Fall Down from last song 1st set 4/15 but can't find a video. That other is no slouch, but that video and sound doesn't do it justice

Anyone have a recommendation for an electric guitar amp that has effects built in? Kids want pedals or something to switch up tones. We currently have 3 guitars, but one amp, so another amp is needed and I figured it would be easier to get everything in one. Is that a thing?

Fender has some amps with an 'FX Select' knob with a number of effects like reverb, chorus, tremolo, etc. I have only ever used DOD pedals, and swear by them (DOD Death Metal FTMFW).

A lot of people say the Boss Katana you posted.

I use a Vox VT40X. It's a modeling amp, complete with a computer app that let's you either select from presets or custom put in 3 types of pedals (first spot is comp/volume boost/distortion, 2nd is phaser/flanger/delay stuff, 3rd is reverb) with a wide variety of amp styles, but also has a power tube in the pre-amp so you get that tube sound if you want it.

Line 6 also exists, but I haven't had one for like 7 years, so I'm not sure how well their tech has progressed.

Many thanks for all the comments. I'm not even sure how the pedal works with an amp. Looking at that vox and the boss, what are the differences? Do you need pedals to switch tones with either or are they both built in?

I don't know much else about the Katana, but to switch between stuff on my amp, I can

- Use a foot-switch that i had to buy separately, that filters through the 8 presets I have saved

- the amp has buttons that do the same thing to filter through the presets or change effects (with small knobs to adjust the presets)

- if you don’t have presets, the amp has a wheel that filters through a bunch of preset amp models

- you can switch through a bunch of different things in the app

Sounds like a burgeoning pedal guy.

I think it really depends what he’s trying to do with the tone. If he just wants to make new noises, you can get a used amp that has funky settings. It’ll all sound pretty bad, but weird. If he has a specific effect he’s looking for, then you’re down the pedal rabbit hole.

With the guys I play with, the bass guy is a major pedal head, every time we get together he has rearranged his pedal board. I have a distortion pedal.

I'm so jealous of how quick they can pick up any instrument. I still can't get past smoke on the water. I got a tambourine for Christmas...

I'm 99% sure that I still have my Metallica guitar notes books from when I was a kid. Came in crazy handy for parts of songs where you weren't sure what they were doing.

Stranger things got them rowdy for Metallica. I was never really into them as a kid. Master of puppets is played often. My kids basically just use YouTube for a song and will be playing it an hour later. Got that from my wife, we play fun games on the piano to see who can figure out songs fastest.

That's basically how I learned. Popped in a Metallica album into the cassette deck, sat down in front of it and learned all of their songs. Literally taught myself everything from Kill 'Em All to the black album that way.
