I think that the new Foos album is very lackluster. It pains me as a fan since the beginning to write that.
Did you watch Sonic Highways (mentioned by Tif above)?

Really gives you insight into the songs and where they came from.

I really enjoyed it.

I see both sides of this. I honestly think I liked Highways more because of the show than I probably would have if I hadn't watched it and gone through the process of seeing the band discover the material in each city. Especially true for the Austin and Seattle episodes. Chicago and DC were my favorite songs, NOLA was my favorite episode.

I hadn't heard that one before. And I thought I was well versed in the Bakersfield scene, and Yoakum in particular, even if I had focused primarily on Owens and Haggard.

Anyone into Firewater? I'm liking it quite a bit so far.

I like it.
To revisit this, the album is great lyrically. One of the most existential albums I've ever heard. Pretty fair to say the man on the burning tight rope is the (or one of the) symbols for the absurd life, which features prominently throughout. I found these lyrics to be particularly great.

We don't know who put this cup of life into our hands
But when we go our bones will bake upon the burning sands
'cause we walk but once among the living, so no regrets and no forgiving
Hard to dance when you're down upon your knees

And these are dark days indeed, these are dark days indeed
These are dark days, dark days
These are dark days indeed

In my head, I read this as 'same date' and was like 'noooooo, that can't be right, they died like 10 years apart'. Derp.

Pretty depressing that deaths have to be estimated.

Dying alone is a fear of mine.

105.9 The X has brought back XFest...sorta.

July 25 Stage Ae Rise Against and Killswitch Engage and some other band. Tix are 39.50 and I believe there will be a second X Fest in August. Now id possibly be interested if KSE still had Howard, but meh...no thanks.

Rise Against had some good albums. I got introduced to them through an iHeart feed based on The Real MacKenzies. Ordered a couple -- Appeal to Reason is an album that comes to mind.

I still have an X-fest shirt from Starlake the year Lit was there and Mighty Mighty Bosstones etc.

Anyhow.. I'd go for KSE I guess, but other than that Rise Against does nothing for me.
