Just got back from my first concert in years: Mongolian heavy-metal band The Hu at the Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall. Damn fine show. They have an new album coming out, and based on some of the new songs they played, I'm greatly looking forward to it.

I played this CD while working last week.

Partaking in some Faith No More this morning. Yeah that will get your blood pumping.

I'm puzzled why, at a time when CD was the primary medium for music delivery, FNM would put out a 2 CD greatest hits album with 60 min on disc 1 and 30 on disc 2. Fill up those discs!

My son just started collecting vinyl (I haven't owned a record in many years) and is simply BLOWN AWAY by the liner notes and extras that come with records. He keeps coming out and saying things like "Look at the lyrics they've printed here!" and "I can see who's performed on EACH track!"

That's one thing I've missed about the move to MP3/streaming - no liner notes to pore over while listening to a new album. Sure, the info is usually available elsewhere, but it was nice to have it right in the jewel case.

Just got a call for an audition in a touring cover band. The audition song is Santeria by Sublime. Simple enough? Except that song has been my white whale since high school. I can fake my way through it but I can't nail it for some reason. I can play all parts to Master of Puppets but I have never been able to do this one for some reason. This band pays enough that it's "quit work to play music" money. Travel. Week long (sometimes month long) residences at bars in Key West and Key Largo. They play weddings as well which isn't ideal but it pays really well.

1991 was a massive (heh) year. It's like every genre produced a landmark album ... while some landmark albums spawned genres.

MBV - Loveless
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
Saint Etienne - Fox Base Alpha

I love Dinosaur, but Green Mind was a bit of a disappointment to me.

I've been saying for a while that 1991-1992 is the greatest time in music history

At 82, David Allan Coe has beat Covid. Dude is too mean to die.

So the early knock on Tori Amos was always that she sounded too much like Kate Bush, but IMO St. Vincent sounds more like Tori than Tori ever sounded like Kate. Really enjoy them all.

If you've never seen Tori live I highly recommend. Amazing show.

It doesn't "appear" to be as fast paced as his usual self. It's pretty technical, but it's more singey if that makes sense.
