Clapton is a good guitarist. Absolutely. But he's just that; good. Nothing more. Nothing less. There are hundreds of good guitarists. He's nothing special in regards to his talent. The fact that I can play any and all of his work is a testament to that. His technique, his method, his style, they are all pretty damn average when it comes to guitarists.

And I said he's overrated because I don't think he belongs in any discussion of great guitarists. He's a hack blues man. I thought I was alone in this thinking but I've been in the blues/rock community in Pittsburgh for 3 years now and have discovered many share my opinion.

But hey, YMMV. I love Cream (Spoonful is one of my favorite tunes). Layla is fantastic. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is my favorite Beetles tune. Tears in Heaven makes me sob. But he's just not worthy of the god like praise bestowed upon him by so many IMO.
I disagree with a lot of this, but I'm also not someone crazy who argues with someone else about who is a good guitarist or not. I completely respect your opinion, especially as a musician who I've heard and know is talented themselves.

lol

He was at our Christmas show at Moondogs last year and sat in on a couple tunes. When we're allowed to gig again and I see him I'll ask.

Much like @crusherstasiak and me, Elvis Costello loves Joni Mitchell's Court & Spark.

Much like Eric Clapton, Costello used to sometimes drink and talk too much and say stupid things.

Nothing touches the original, obviously, but this is a good version of Joni Mitchell's River:

My brother lived in Mongolia for a year in the mid 90s, whenever he would venture into town and hit up a disco in the summer, he said wham's last Christmas was the most popular song played

My Dad was a fan of JM in the 1960's and had a few of her albums.

Every now and then you have to listen to some Bluegrass.

Bluegrass always puts me in a great mood. I had never heard any of his music...that's definitely going to change.

Check out his youtube page for some awesome stuff, like jamming in his living room with his old man. His new album Home is terrific. Also check out Turmoil and Tinfoil. He's probably my favorite guitarist going right now, unreal how good he is.

Also regarding Billy Strings, he started out in metal, so that's pretty cool

I love this video of him chilling with friends in college and just casually melting.
