Ringo Starr said the best piece of advice he can give to any musician is to always have a recording device handy (this was back in 1997 so smart phones were not a thing). I've taken that advice and have over 2,000 riffs and ideas saved on a hard drive. Many of those were done after waking up in the middle of the night. The story of how Richards wrote Satisfaction is amazing.Just an insanely talented band. The Jagger/Richards songwriting duo...it amazes me that so much talent and creativity can flow from two people like that. Two people that by many accounts have hated each other since the 80s.
He always slept with a small tape recorder by his bed. And one morning after getting black out drunk he awoke the next morning and saw that the tape was at the end of the reel. "Huh..... I must have woken up during the night and recorded something......" So he rewound the tape, and started listening to it............... several minutes of static............ and then that guitar riff - played one time, and one time only - and then 20 minutes of snoring.
Just fantastic.

My favorite story about Creed is the same day they announced they were breaking up, the members of the band not named Scott Stapp announced they were forming a new band with a different less Scott Stappy singer....... and that new band's first single was released one week after Creed broke up.
Also, as I recall it the break up press release was published at like 10 am, and the "we're forming a new band" press release dropped at like 10:02, from the same PR firm.

attention K-Mart shoppers:
https://archive.org/details/@davismvEvery month, the corporate office issued a cassette to be played over the store speaker system — canned elevator-type music with advertisements seeded every few tracks. Around 1991, the muzak was replaced with mainstream hits, and the following year, new tapes began arriving weekly. The cassettes were supposed to be thrown away, but Davis dutifully slipped each tape into his apron pocket to save for posterity. He collected this strange discount department store ephemera until 1993 when background music began being piped in via satellite service.
Nearly 20 years on, Davis has digitized his whole collection, 56 cassettes in all, and just recently, made the recordings available at archive.org accompanied by some more background on this bizarre treasure trove. For a taste, listen below to the sweet, sweet sounds of October 1989
Not your thing? Maybe you’d dig the extra special 30th birthday program from March 1, 1992, which they were instructed to play at “a much higher volume.”
God, the internet is a wonderful place.

So, any thoughts on the new Foo Fighters song from SNL last night? Backing singers?

I like it, has a stripped down La Dee Da vibe.
They did that version of Times Like These last month in their set from The Troubadour (which is my favorite club venue in town) for #saveourstages which was cool.

I'm still not sure how I feel about it. When I first heard it, it was more "oh no, what is this?" Gave it a few days, and it's not as bad as originally thought but that doesn't mean I'm a huge fan of it. Maybe it will grow on me.So, any thoughts on the new Foo Fighters song from SNL last night? Backing singers?
Did they give a release date for the new album?

SNL made me realize that I don't really like Foo Fighters. I like two of their hits.

Have you watched the Sonic Highways series? It’s an amazing look at all styles of music and at the end of each episode, FF use the content for that episode to craft a song. Really enjoyable even if you aren’t crazy about the band.SNL made me realize that I don't really like Foo Fighters. I like two of their hits.
