Summer solstice
There is something perverse about the days starting to get shorter *just* as we really start to get into the stride of meteorological summer, which, btw, typically includes all of June, July, August.
The good news is, the sunsets, which affect more of us, will not start to get earlier for another 10 days. It is 8:54 in Pittsburgh today, and a month from now, it will only be ten minutes earlier. 7:53 at the end of August, which still isn't bad.
I do sometimes wish I lived further west, because out here in Lancaster, the sun sets 20 minutes earlier on average (for example, the sunset is 8:37 tonight)

Most of us think about the earliest sunset of the year when we think about short days...the later sunrises don't register as much on our consciousness as the early sunsets do.
Fun fact, our earliest sunsets actually came at the beginning of this month. Between Dec 1-13, the sunset around 4:53 in Pittsburgh (earlier for points north/east, later for points south/west). Today in Pennsylvania actually marks the latest sunset (4:56 in Pittsburgh) since Thanksgiving.
Conversely, the sunrises will continue to get later until early January. For Pittsburgh, sunrise is at 7:39 AM, and will be at 7:43 AM for most of the first half of January.

Anyways, I'm going to pretend like our passive, uncaring administrative staff actually deleted all the nonsensical posting before this actual post.
Today is the shortest day of the year. It sucks outside and appropriately so. I'm going to go food shopping tonight to celebrate the crappiness. Enjoy it you ballers.

I've been meaning to look this up. I noticed when I was leaving work this week that there was still about 5-10 min of daylight in the west. Not a lot by any means, but still very noticeable considering I'm used to leaving and not seeing any sign of light. Most of us think about the earliest sunset of the year when we think about short days...the later sunrises don't register as much on our consciousness as the early sunsets do.

Ladies, gentlemen, and ballers,
1. Sunset is 8:54
2. I’ll be enjoying the longest day of the year by watching the pirates and the padres. I hope Musgrove doesn’t suck.
3. Stop trying to appropriate my thread.
4. Please spend the longest day of the year doing the outside activity of your choice....golf, beer, grilling, farting around with your kids or dogs or dogs and kids in the backyard, whatever.
5. Enjoy it you ballers.

Happy Summer Solstice, Kenny and others!
Enjoy y'all. Out east here in Lancaster, the sun sets 17 minutes earlier (but rises 17 minutes earlier) due to the differences in geography in the time zone. You lucky dogs.
