They closed the last rax in greensburg fairly recently. I was there circa 09, it was really dirty though. When the site did work I know they had a few in Ohio and WV not sure if they still do. I checked back in Feb. When I was a kid I went to the one in mckeepsort. That one closed about 20 years ago.

I find the idea that things close and disappear very interesting. In my hometown alone a few things disappeared.

Just moved from N. Versailles recently. It is indeed pretty depressing there now. That's what happens when you border a county where taxes are 1/3.
Where did you live in North Versailles?

When I was a young child, we lived in Green Valley apartments in N. Versailles. Don't remember much except we had a small flower garden in the back. This was in the early 70s.

Used to love going to Eastland Mall for the giant flea market with my mom every weekend. Purchased so many baseball/hockey cards.

What are some places that are either defunct or had a name change that you were fond of during their existence, or at a minimum make you snicker when thinking about them?

2. Italian Oven
Original Italian Ovens actually still exist in Connellsville and Somerset. We head out to the Connellsville one every few months to get a good stromboli. They don't have the pasta for straws anymore, but you still get the canning jar for a glass, and the butcher paper for a tablecloth to draw on.

When I was in middle school I wanted to be a stockbroker, so I went to interview one for a school project. I remember him showing me Italian Oven stock trading for less than a dollar.

I also had a hockey game that night. It was the one my coach didn't show up for because he was arrested for sleeping with one of my classmates.

Weird that two things so completely unrelated happened on the same day that were worth remembering for 20 years.

Anyone else remember Woodson's bar in Station Square? I went there once when I was younger. There's not much info on it, but I did find a "program" from there with the menu. Funny to look at it now.

Wow what a blast from the past. Have not thought of that place in ages. Went there 3 or 4 times. Can't really recall any details.

Anyone else remember Pharmore? Pretty sure it was a drug store. There was one on Rt. 51 in Brentwood.

Phar-Mor, and yes, there was one in Altoona. That's where I used to rent SNES/NES games.

Fun fact: The current CEO and Chairman of Giant Eagle co-founded Phar-Mor in the early 1980s. His partner, Michael Monus, served 10 years in federal prison in a huge embezzlement scheme.

I remember Woodson's. I went there a few times. I don't remember much other than it was decorated with Steelers memorabilia. I think there was a walk of fame outside the restaurant, but I think that was from when it was the Pittsburgh Sports Garden.

IIRC Phar-Mor was more than just a pharmacy. The one in Cranberry was a poor man's Wal-Mart.

Thrift Drug is the local defunct pharmacy.

When you were a younger man (in your ulf days, not your willeyeam days), did you get to watch the documentary on his fraud schemes in any auditing classes? they pulled some ballsey stunts. monus also tried to start a basketball league for guys that were like 6'6" or shorter or something like that. what a guy

also, this gentleman went to woodsons as part of a celebration for Kenny the kangaroo's pony league championship in 1998. This gentleman was rock solid at second base and batting in the two slot.

Phar-Mor always had the best rental selection. Maybe nobody knew there was a little video/game rental store tucked away in the back, but they always had the latest releases.

My Dad took us there a few times. I remember that they shared a space with Hooters so there was a hall that you could walk from the bar in Woodsons to the bar in Hooters without going outside. 11 year old me thought that was awesome.
