Cuff links (along with shirt studs) are mandatory for black or white tie. White tie should always have single cuffs, and black tie can use single or double cuffs (i.e. French cuffs).

I know the current climate, but it will change eventually for prom-caliber tuxes. I guarantee it.

I will be retiring old/buying new dress shirts quite soon. Are there any "rules" or "2019 trends" regarding the collar "V" shapes? That is, among (A) Nedved (very wide) (B) Jagr (very narrow) and (C) the non-name striped tie behind Jagr, which is "THE" way to go?



Also - in terms of suits, I have always been with Brooks Brothers. Recently, I started seeing Indochino ads everywhere (including "wardrobe provided by..." for major sports broadcasts). Any positive/negative experience with them?

A friend of mine got an Indochino suit. His wife measured him for it. It was a little tight in the chest (he's a very slight, low body fat individual) but other than that he really liked it. I've thought about giving them a go as well.

There is no "the" way to go for collar types. It depends on the person, and the collar type should be made to complement the face of the man. A round or fat face will look fatter with a spread collar, so those men should go with a more narrow collar with longer points. Conversely, man with a a thin or narrow face matches best with a spread collar. And men faces in between those two extremes should look for shirt collars in between—not too wide and not too narrow.

You mean me? I'm intrigued by the concept,but at the same time I am doubtful that me measuring myself like that would adequately convey the information necessary to make a proper-fitting suit for my fat lumpy ass. I think I'd definitely want to go to one of their physical locations to get measured by a professional. I'm not sure of how big of suits they make either. Their website doesn't make any mention of big/tall stuff or portly suits.

I like watches, but I've never seen any particular need to buy any really expensive ones. I own a bunch of Timex watches, and the only reason my go-to dress business watch is not a Timex (it's a Seiko Kinetic GMT) is because Timex wasn't making anything I liked at the time I was shopping. That said, I've now promised myself that when I finally pay off my mortgage in seven years or so, I'm going to go buy a Grand Seiko "snowflake" Spring Drive:

Tag Heuer Grand Carrera. I have a replica of this watch that I bought from a bazaar vendor in Afghanistan. It's the watch I always said I would buy for myself when I finished law school. Still might have to wait a little.

Also enjoy Rolex Daytonas, but I doubt I will ever buy one.

But you can't unwind a plastic hanger and use it for other purposes.
