I agree... if this was a typical office setting, I wouldn't be thinking fleece zip up, but it's a super casual environment.

Navy blue Columbia fleece is exactly what I wear.

With these hot/cold swings in combination with me losing a lot of my insulation that past year, I get cold pretty quickly. Is there a common thing that people keep at their desk for occasions when the get cold? Keep in mind, my office is a casual dress code.

A woman here keeps a space heater in her office. You step in there, and it's like walking into one of those greenhouse jungle exhibits at a conservatory.

Like meow, I keep a couple of knit shawl-collar cardigan sweaters in my office, one in red and one in green. Mine are button-up sweaters, but zip versions would be fine too. I also have some button-up knit sweater vests that I'll wear when it's cold. For a more casual office environment, a zip fleece vest or fleece sweater would also work nicely.

oh... a vest might be the best bet. I am typically wearing a long sleeve shirt, and having a long sleeve shirt plus fleece jacket could be a bit much. Thanks for the idea.

@shmenguin You're a tall skinny dude right? Where do you buy shirts for work (assuming you wear dress/business casual stuff to work)? I'm pretty much in medium shirt, but I need the length in my arms (and torso for that matter). Most 15.5 shirts fit great on me, except the arm length. The longest I can find is a 34/35 sleeve, and it would work, but largely all I can find in 15.5 neck size is 32/33 in sleeve length. Typically I'm a 36/37.

Saw a guy come out of the Federated building yesterday. Adidas Sambas, full suit, baseball cap, leather high school style backpack, and spitting on the ground about every 10 feet. Almost stopped to take a picture, what a schmuck.

Yeah... might have to go with a slim fit 16 with the longer arm lengths. It wouldn't be so bad if I just needed a shirt or two, but I need pretty much an entirely new wardrobe.

Backpacks with business wear is a peeve of mine. I think it's completely unprofessional. It makes you look like a college student on the way to a job interview.

i wear a backpack w businesswear. I respect the hell out of shyster's opinion on all non-banana matters; that being said, it is 2018. most workbags are uncomfortable, and backpacks are not. you can have a nice looking backpack and not look like a total goon. I got mine at specialty luggage fyi

I must admit that I carry a "nontraditional" business case myself. I've used one of these for years:



I like hard-sided cases, and I need one big enough to be able to hold a legal-sized redweld file along with stuff like an emergency umbrella. I was buying attaché cases, but I kept having them break on me. The crappy pot metal on the latches or hinges would break—even on expensive models—and most of the really sturdy models (like the Zero Halliburton models) are too small to hold a big legal file. So I bought a Pelican Storm case, which is pretty much indestructible, and I've been using it for years. I got it without any interior, so it's basically just a box. I can also use it as an overnight bag if I want to.

I object to backpacks not necessarily because of how they look, but rather because I don't like anything carried from the shoulders when you're wearing a suit. They wrinkle up the shoulders on your jacket. Although I do think that if you're going to go backpack, it should be a nice-looking leather model and not something that you'd take camping.
