Shirt stays are great once you get used to them. I suppose if you combined shirt stays with suspenders you'd have the ultimate in anti-plumber crack technology.
I used shirt stays in the Coast Guard...crucial part of a sharp uniform.

there was a tie shop near the pantheon in rome (ezio pellicano)

hand made ties on site from a wide variety of different silks. paid 40 euro each for my two ties. have been trying to contact them to order some more to no avail. ill send them notes via facebook, their website, email, etc. and have not had a response. major bummer.

I'll take a shoe repair recommendation, too. I have two pair of Vans Bedford shoes. The newest pair is only about four months old, and they are my favorite shoes. One of the lace eyelets popped out last week. wth

If wearing a bow tie daily is your “thing” then I immediately think less of you.

agreed. nothing says "im trying too hard" like wearing a bow tie on a daily basis. well, maybe om's bad puns say "im trying too hard" on a similar level.

Good question. I think it depends on the individual. Since a small percentage of men look good in them, their frequency should not exceed once a month. If you don’t look good, I don’t know, never is probably the right answer.

I believe Shyster is a bow tie aficionado. They are more common in the legal world compared to other industries, and I have found its usually Trusts & Estates lawyers who love that look.

IMO they're dumb unless you're in a tux, and even then for 99% of wearers that bow tie better damn well be black.

I own a couple bow ties, but I rarely wear them. It's been years. IMO they look best on thinner men, such as notable bow-tie-wearer Bill Nye with his thin frame and long, narrow face. And thin is definitely not me.

I would say that every man should have a plain black bow tie for tuxedo use. It's perfectly acceptable to rent a tux, but it's not acceptable to wear a clip-on or pretied bow tie.

My boss wears a bow tie 6-7 days a week.

It works for him, but not most people.

I have nothing against the guys that it obviously works for. Hell, I wish I could pull it off. I think the body type is a big deal. Maybe age to a lesser extent. Maybe profession to an even lesser extent.

The 99% of fools that fail miserably at pulling it off - go fly a kite.

With these hot/cold swings in combination with me losing a lot of my insulation that past year, I get cold pretty quickly. Is there a common thing that people keep at their desk for occasions when the get cold? Keep in mind, my office is a casual dress code.

That might be something that'd work... I was also considering something like a fleece zip up kind of deal. It's not uncommon for people to be walking around in hoodies here.

I keep a zip-up fleece year round, no hoodie. Even in summer when the AC gets a little crazy.
