i refuse to wear j&m. ive had three pairs and they all fell apart (completely apart) within 6 months. i spoke with their customer service and they told me i 'wear shoes wrong'

Since these aren't 'dress shoes' they don't apply for the more recent thread, but I wanted to share.

I just discovered Salomon hiking shoes. Got a pair of Eskape Aeros, and have worn them pretty much every day for over a week to break them in.



They apparently don't make this particular model anymore, so the internet is likely your best bet. But I like these very much, so I'll be buying other shoes from the brand in the future.

My Dad was always a Florisheim guy.

That's what I wear for dress shoes (work shoes in my case). Florsheim makes wide sizes, and I've found their sizes to be consistent and the quality to be good. I have a couple pairs that—thanks to periodic re-soling at Northway Shoes and Repair—are coming up on 10 years old, and they still look fine.

Pro tip: if you are thinking about macy's downtahn to get a good deal before it closes, save yourself a trip. prices are still high and the selection is below the line.

also, this gentleman got a badass pair of two tone brown oxfords a few weeks back. kenny the kangaroo has been receiving copious compliments for them.

I saw them at Larrimors downtown... 325 on sale for 240 but they didnt have my size. Did an online search and found em on amazon for like $135. Steal.

Also allen edmonds shoes are incredible. I have a pair of dark brown park avenues that are the best shoe i have ever owned.

As long as they make these, I will continue to buy them as my go to dress shoes. Holding up well on year 3 of every day use and I have yet to find something more comfortable (besides crocs).

Look for sales. Depending on how often you wear them/how much you want to spend, TJ Maxx and Gabriel Brothers have them for anywhere between $3 and $10 each. JC Pennys and Macy's you're looking closer to $25-$40 and sometimes even more. Pretty much every time I go to Gabes or TJ's I just go and take a look at the tie rack because they change so often and quality is pretty good for the price.

I can understand your hesitancy to buy online, but I repeat my recommendation for thetiebar.com. I own more than 20 of their ties and this point, and I'm very happy with all of them. IMO they are better quality than the ties I've bought in places like Macy's or Penney's, and they cost less.

Kohl's has a real nice selection, and they are pretty cheap. I'm a sucker for the shirt/tie boxed sets
