Linked cuffs, which may be single or double layer (French cuffs are double layer) are more formal than regular barrel cuffs. For example, black- and white-tie outfits require shirts with linked cuffs. I agree with meow on this point; I wouldn't wear linked cuffs unless I were wearing a full suit (with tie).

I have a few wool knit ties, though. So maybe my fashion sense is off kilter.

sartorial pet peeve: cuff links that look like this/derivatives of this:I agree with meow's take. Cuff links are pretty gat dam high on the totem pole.I can't condone this type of behavior. I feel there is a progression when it comes to dress attire. Cuff links are at the top. You need to check several boxes before you can check the cuff link box and a tie is 100% one of those boxes. I'd even say that a matching suit in a must with cuff links. No tans pants + a navy jacket (a personal favorite). That's meow's take. You can even go cuff links no coat with a nice shirt, but I admit that is frowned upon by most ( @meow might fight me for this iirc).

Regardless of whether I'm wearing a suit, I always wear a tie if I wear a white shirt to work. I guess that means I have a prep school look some days.
Also, I went with a blazer over sweater over shirt and tie to a deposition recently and loved it.

The cufflinks thing is no question, by the book, not the correct choice. Everyone should have something that is unique to them and that is "wrong" from a fashion sense, as long as its not dumb (ask Gianni Agnelli, RIP). Also, I decide what is dumb.

pure sugar water. 180 proof. messed me up real good. I've never seen him without that grin on his face, so I'm inclined to believe him when he says it's all he drinks.

I was recently exposed to the phenomenon of tucking your undershirt into your underwear to keep your dress shirt tightly tucked in throughout the day. My skepticism has been demolished by this new way of life. Once I got over the initial feeling of it, it has been great.

Shirt stays are great once you get used to them. I suppose if you combined shirt stays with suspenders you'd have the ultimate in anti-plumber crack technology.

Undershirts protect expensive shirts from the acids and other chemicals in our sweat, and shirts will wear and yellow much faster without them. Also, a white dress shirt, especially something thinner like broadcloth, will look brighter and whiter with a white undershirt beneath it.
I also tuck my undershirt into my boxers. I agree with meow that it keeps everything in place better, and it also obviates any concerns about scratchy tags or seams on the underwear waistband because the undershirt ends up between the waistband and the skin.

My shirts are not tissue paper thin and are luxurious so I don't have the visible nipple issue with white shirts.
The undershirt thing I also associate with children dressing up.

I am a sweater, especially when I'm nervous. If I'm on an interview, you're damn right I'm going to be wearing an undershirt. Soak up the sweat before it gets to the dress shirt.

Living in a hot/humid climate basically requires an undershirt for work situations.
