This gentleman feels like unless you are wearing black pants and shoes, a black belt says "I don't know any better"

Just one marsupial's opinion
Even with navy or grey? I wear black belt and shoes for those colors.

the only time i ever wear a black belt is with a black suit

btw to clarify, Kenny the kangaroo doesn't think its necessarily "wrong" to wear blue or gray with a black belt. it just means you don't quite "get it".

kind of like wearing cargo shorts to golf (or any reason, really). Kenny the kangaroo wears cargo shorts to golf all the time. its not wrong, just means you don't "get it"

If you're wearing a darker gray suit I think a black belt/shoes is fine (I never do this personally but I think it's ok). Beyond that I agree with this sentiment.

I'm not particularly fond of wearing brown shoes with navy, although it is perfectly acceptable. On the other hand, I do like pairing burgundy/cordovan shoes with a navy suit, and burgundy shoes can also be worn with dark charcoal gray suits/pants.

Wearing brown or burgundy shoes with gray or navy reduces the formality of the overall outfit. So while I have no problem putting on my burgundy loafers with some navy pants and a sport coat, if for example I'm headed to court I wouldn't wear anything other than black shoes with a gray or navy suit.

I have this hat (in brown, which no longer seems to be offered as a color), which I wear as a winter hat with my dress overcoat. It's a Bailey wool fedora made using their LiteFelt® material, which makes the felt both crush resistant and water resistant. The brim at 2-7/8" is on the wide side and helps keep rain and snow out of my face.

I've been loving this on days like today. Keeps me dry during heavy rain on the way to the bus. Hang it on the hand grip on the seat in front of me and it drip drys after about 20 minutes. It will crush down flat and then pop right back up. Somehow doesn't seem to attract my dog's white hair that seems to cling to my peacoat. Really happy with it.

Despite all the recent bashing of belts in here, anybody have any recommendations for a good jeans belt? Every one I own tends to warp after a week of use.

I wear a fossil belt with jeans. I've had it about 3 years now. The only wear spot is around the hole I use. The rest of it looks as good as the day I bought it.

I reiterate my recommendation of Anson Belt for all belt needs. I have a couple of the 1.5" "casual leather" straps with matching buckles, and they are nicely thick and sturdy.

Seconded.

It was very handy going through airport security. I could undo the clasp and just remove the buckle, didn't have to rethread the belt every time. Awesome.

I've been wearing the same belt for 15+ years. It's black, as are my wingtips. In fact, I've never owned a brown belt or brown shoes; they are not a good look.

Jay Wright is the George Clooney of CBB.

Also I want to hate him because of the Scottie Reynolds thing but I can't really do it
