I don’t really care who’s a dick to who backstage as long as they’re entertaining on camera. And Punk is entertaining as hell.

I'm more than ready for a Punk return. I don't think the second show works w/o him... If it is just the new Rampage no one will watch after a couple weeks again.

Sigh. I guess I should just start tuning in at 8:20 or something. It defies all logic.

TK just announced Aussie Open as All Elite. Sucks that Davis got hurt recently though, so might be awhile before we see them in action together. Would definitely like to see em vs FTR when they are ready to go.
additional note: just saw that TK actually paid for Davis's meniscus surgery before they were signed.

Am I the only one who just doesn't buy Jungle Boy on the mic? Of all the purported pillars, he is the least believable. He has the charisma of a wet sponge. He's fine in the ring but I cringe when he talks.

I'm all for a punk return. He's a huge dick but he makes $$$$$ and no way the second show works without him IMO.
It may end in disaster but I'll watch until it does.

Fun hard hitting little match there between Strong and Garcia.

Prior to this AEW stint, what percentage of casual wrestling fans would guess that Sabu is dead?

Last night was a pretty bad show, but really bad as a go home show if you are trying to sell the PPV. There were good things here and there, but overall...big old meh at best. Dead crowd didn't help either.

Yeah, I kinda expected this when I saw the card.Last night was a pretty bad show, but really bad as a go home show if you are trying to sell the PPV. There were good things here and there, but overall...big old meh at best. Dead crowd didn't help either.
Regardless of my feelings towards OC, booking a championship match 4 days before the PPV when the belt is being defended in a battle Royale is the epitome of pointless because there is literally no chance the belt will change hands.
You had Hob vs a completely random team of guys. Taya valkyrie who has had like 2 matches herself vs someone who I've heard of but has never appeared on AEW TV. Lucha bros vs random Claudio yuta tag team...
The unannounced Strong-Garcia match was the highlight of the night for me. Short, but hard hitting. I really wish Garcia could get away from the JAS bs and just focus on being a good wrestler without the sports entertainer shtick.
Promos were up and down throughout.
I did enjoy Dax's promo, but HATED them making Mark Briscoe look dumb like he didn't think to watch the footage of what happened last week... I knew this was going to happen but come on.
I've learned by now that the quality of the ppv is not tied to the TV which preceded it, but maybe give a bit of effort next time?

Also literally a 30 second promo (taped) from Hayter and Storm to promote the women's title match. Like I know the match is going to be awesome regardless, but give me something more there.
Agree that Strong/Garcia was the best match of the night.
The main event at the PPV just does nothing for me. I know what they are trying to go for, but Jungle Boy is a midcarder at best, Darby is fun but it's hard to give him your world title when he might die during a match, and Sammy's babyface thing just doesn't work for me. The match should still be good, but still...just a weak PPV main event IMO.
There are still things I'm looking forward to at the PPV, and like you said sometimes weak TV ends up being a banging PPV, but I just hate when go home shows are so weak.

Agreed on the main event. It would have been better if they focused on one pillar (preferably Darby) instead of muddling things with a 4 way. None of these guys are taking the belt off MJF, so they are going to need to do work to make this worth it.
Honestly it feels like the Anarchy in the Arena is the big match for this one and really should be last but probably won't.
Watch them stuff the women's match in between that and the 4 way.
And yeah usual minimal time for the women's match. My main concern there is if Hayter is healthy enough to have a real match or if we're going to get shenanigans or something instead

From what I just read today it seems like Hayter is legit hurt which sucks. Probably be a quick match/angle and have her drop the belt. If that is the case none of this interim stuff....let Storm be the champ and run with it.
SRS on his post Dynamite show: "Jamie Hayter is hurt. She is hurt. I'm thinking this division looks categorically different in 5 days. I see the winds of change coming here and I think we're in for some major change in this division."

No Swerve vs Lee or Starks vs White at the PPV, but it's OK because they're all in the battle Royale.

JR may not be what he used to be on commentary, but he's still damn good at these sit down interviews. Callis is fantastic in his role here as well. This is frankly better than most of what was on Dynamite this past week IMO.

At least it looks like they are getting the Battle Royale cluster out of the way immediately.
