Read on a few sites that Daniel Bryan has signed with AEW now... if they get both Punk and Bryan...oh boy.

Daniel Bryan signing is a huge get. Rumored to be paid the same as he was in WWE, less dates, and he can go to Japan.

Now that's heel heat.

Cardona is a great heel. The “ECW original” stuff is hilarious. Still, I hate death match wrestling.

First nick Gage shows up in AEW. Then Zack Ryder beats Nick Gage in a deathmatch in GCW.
Nick Gage is also fighting Jericho on national tv in what is basically a deathmatch this week..
Bizarro world.

The power of Dark Side of the Ring. Hopefully he can take advantage and not do something stupid like rob another bank.

I legitimately worry Nick Gage will kill Jericho. That's saying something.

I don't even understand why Jericho feels he has to do that match.

I don’t even understand why people like that style of match. I like wrestling because of the storytelling (in and out of the ring) and the art of making something look painful while actually being very safe. Death matches have neither (for the most part). I don’t want to see somebody legit get hurt. Cutting somebody’s forehead with the broken end of a light tube does not take any skill.

Uuhhh. That hurricarana in a real fight though.
By the way, that's CM Punk.

I have this on in the background and I don't get it. Nick Gage can't wrestle worth a ****. His entire gimmick is using a pizza cutter and light tubes.First nick Gage shows up in AEW. Then Zack Ryder beats Nick Gage in a deathmatch in GCW.

Literally nothing is gained from this.

There's a reason like 30 people go to those shows... Not sure why Jericho felt the need to do this.

Doesn’t Jericho do the VO on Dark side of the ring?

The best thing AEW has going for it is even when they put out a below average show like last night.. it still feels like it's a "hot" wrestling show. It doesn't feel stale or anything. The crowd is still into things, no one is sitting on their hands. That was an average show at best, but it never dragged like a WWE show does.
Also when they go to Chicago and Punk shows up... oh boy. They basically said it without saying it last night.

My preferred wrestling show growing up was ECW, hands-down. I enjoyed the no rules type stuff - but the people doing it never really went past tables and chairs, and whatever New Jack brought out.
Deathmatch wrestling is weird, because it's just performative self-injuring.

I'm also quite surprised they ended up having Hangman and team lose last night. They've got 5 weeks left, and I hope they didn't kill Hangman's rise for Bryan or Punk.
Hangman's time to win last night with the DO was last night. It felt like it killed the pop, essentially.

ECW was also a product of its time. Music was changing, movies were changing, it only made sense for wrestling to change as well. 2021 is much different than 1994. GCW feels like a bunch of 40 year old neckbeards trying to recreate the magic they felt when they were watching ECW in their teens. Admittedly I haven't watched much outside of Cardona's recent involvement and a few "highlights" but I don't see any of the ECW charm there. ECW, for as "real" as it portrayed itself, had legit wrestling gimmicks, characters, and storylines. Sandman was a gimmick, Sabu was a gimmick, Taz was a gimmick, even Tommy Dreamer was a gimmick. GCW and Nick Gage are just regular dudes who can't wrestle going out there and legit hurting each other with **** light tubes. I don't get it at all.

and I think that's what part of my beef with this "deathmatch" was: there was nothing to it as far as Gage goes. Oh look, he's cutting him with a pizza cutter. Oh, he's doing it again. Yay /s. Moar pizza cutter stuff.ECW was also a product of its time. Music was changing, movies were changing, it only made sense for wrestling to change as well. 2021 is much different than 1994. And even the light tube **** really isn't that impressive. I've been hit with them before (long story, don't ask), and I don't recall any pain involved. Of course mine was only across the back and not anywhere with exposed skin. I always thought the tube breaking was more for effect and the secondary effect of picking tiny pieces of glass out later was the painful part.
Anyways, yeah, this deathmatch stuff does nothing for me. I'm not even sure if the 1994 version of me would be into it.

Yeah, I don't get this at all. They will probably find some way to come back around to the match, but it doesn't need to be complicated.I'm also quite surprised they ended up having Hangman and team lose last night. To be fair they had Hangman kick out of multiple finishers, get lots of offense in when it was 3 on 1, and had him lose to a belt shot after multiple v-triggers.Yeah, I don't get this at all. I don't disagree with the overall point but it's not like he lost clean in the center of the ring.
