GE charges asinine meat prices. But if you go to the meat counter, they sell the chicken breast for $1.99 a pound. They don't advertise it heavily, but it is way, way cheaper than the chicken they sell in packages.

I was curious (as I don't typically buy pork or steak that often), so I had to look it up. Wegman's is $1.99 a pound for pork chops in family portions (8 chops... ~3.5 pounds of pork) or $3.99 a pound for 2 chops (just under a pound of pork). And I thought Wegman's was pricey.

I went to a meat distributor/wholesaler (good not Prime quality) in South Jersey on Monday and got:
20# boneless chicken breast
10# chicken wings
8# ribeye steaks
11# filet tenderloin
8# skirt steak
10# center cut bone in pork chops
9# lean ground beef
15# beef brisket

Total spent? Take a guess.
$268

Mac buys chicken from Sam's club in the pre packaged portions.

8# skirt steak
This always triggers me. This has become a hipster cut. In just a few years the price has gone from like $6/lb to $18 or more at some of the stores I shop. It's insane. Hanger and flank steaks are still cheap-ish, but skirts are crazy go bonkers.

I know you’re a foodie who will scoff, but this was $5.49 a pound. Like I said, not Prime, but it’s good.

When we relocated back to the burgh in 2003, I went to Tom Fridays to get skirt steak, and the butcher said I was the first person to ask for it. They typically ground it and it was $4/lb. 15 years later, here we are.
BTW...Aldi sells skirt steak at 8.99/lb.

To that point, why in the world would someone 'scoff' at affordable cuts actually being affordable??

Last time I bought meat at Aldi it was a tri-tip roast at a great price that had a “Great For Fajitas!” sticker plastered to it. I said to myself “no **** mother ****, I’m gonna use Jenji’s carne asada recipe and sous vide my way to some kick ass tacos”.

Got home and opened the package up and it was SEVERAL very thinly sliced cuts of meat stacked on top of each other and packaged to look like a single intact tri-tip roast.

**** YOUR MEATS ALDI

So you're saying it was, ultimately, Great For Fajitas?

Restaurant Depot is where it's at for good meat prices.
It's a wholesaler, you have to have a commercial business license to get those prices.
