Such is life
Good pans on the cheap.....

I have the "junior grade" all clad (branded with Emeril's name) and expect those to last...well, a long time.

BTW... of all indian food, I've never heard of someone trying chicken tikka masala and thinking it's disgusting. It's about as tame as you can get.
Concur. This was my entry-level dish into Indian food. Honestly, the hardest adjustment for me trying Indian food was getting used to the ginger.

In the same way that 'spaghetti Bolognese' isn't really a thing in Italy, CTM isn't really a thing in India. CTM was invented in Scotland by a Bangladeshi cook. The closest comp in India is butter chicken.

All Clad is made in Canonsburg, I think right? Do they have a factory outlet?

IIRC @Shyster has a relation that works or worked for All Clad.

Inside FieriCon, the World's Only Guy Fieri-Themed Bar Crawl
On Saturday, November 18, about 100 would-be Guy Fieris descended on Midtown Manhattan with a single goal in mind: Get to Flavortown.
While how exactly one might find the portal to Flavortown was up for debate, there were dozens of men and women in bleach-blonde wigs, hot-sauce-emblazoned shirts, and fake goatees who all thought they just might know the way. The rallying cry was “I’M GUY FIERI!” starting with one Guy Fieri and escalating into everybody chanting in unison.

I've never had Indian food. What's it like? Comparable to any other ethnic cuisines?

Indian food is good stuff. While there is plenty of regional variation in India (it's a really big country), Indian cuisine generally uses lots of vegetables and beans (and much Indian cooking is outright vegetarian) and employs a wide variety of spices and spice blends (such as curry, which can contain dozens of spices). Taj Mahal on McKnight is one of the better Indian restaurants in Pittsburgh. They have a lunch buffet every day and a dinner buffet on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I recommend hitting one of the buffet nights so you and the wife can sample. It can get crowded, so I'd hit either Monday or Thursday. Look for the tandoori chicken (a classic) and the saag, which is chopped mustard greens with spices and a crapton of butter.

Their regular pots and pans are made in Canonsburg. Other products, such as All Clad-branded appliances, are made overseas. They don't have a factory store, but they do have a at least one factory-second sale each year, which I think takes place at the Washington County Fairgrounds. I can't remember whether it's just once per year or twice. They just had one in December, which means either way there probably won't be another one for a while.

We bought a version of this set on clearance at Costco ~5 years ago. They are true tri-clad cookwear.

Nice, VLB. That's the set I'll be replacing my current stuff with throughout this year. Just hunting for deals.

I inherited mine and can’t see needing an upgrade. Got home use, I can’t see needing a better line.

I also recommend going to a restaurant supply store. You can get all kinds of cookware at a reasonable price, and built to last.

Any love for the current Top Chef season in Colorado? Most of the chefs are pretty funny, and everyone seems to be getting along. Hasn't been a dish that floored me yet, but one of the guys has a restaurant in Brooklyn called Butterfunk Kitchen, and that is the best thing ever.

My folks weren't adventurous with food when we were young, and I've only started to recently. Taj Mahal is the restaurant that prompted the topic between the missus and I. I had heard in the past that it's good, and apparently one of her co-workers is a regular. The buffet does sounds like an ideal solution for trying it out. :thumb:

FWIW, I've never had Thai food, either.

Not sure how authentically Thai it is, but Le Thai Café on Mt. Royal Blvd is an interesting place to eat.

LTC was the only beat in town until Uptown Diner took up anchor and Kanlaya Kitchen moved in. Both places are middle of the road Thai. Nothing spectacular.

I heartily concur on the restaurant supply store recco. The one thing to keep in mind there is the stuff usually isn't the most cosmetically-appealing cookware you'll find, so if that is in any way a consideration that might not be the best outlet.

I went with this set at Sam's club for $99. It was on sale for half off in club.
