Hmmm…. I’m at the age that I should probably start smoking meat.

So it's out now.....

Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro

This is the product I was doing test and development on over the past 6 months. Was hoot, would do again. We got to keep test/beta units; haven't used my oven oven since September or so.
What a dumb price

That looks neat, but for the same amount of money I would take the Anova combi oven. As a bread baker, the steam-injection ability on the Anova would be the deciding factor.

I think I paid $549 for my gas range with convection.

This one is for @tifosi77. This Youtube channel is devoted to udon/soba/tempura/okonomiyaki restaurants in the greater Osaka area. Each video is just prep, cooking, and serving, with pretty much zero commentary.

Oh yeah those videos started popping up in my 'suggested for you' tape a week or so ago. We've also gotten similar videos from Kyoto and I think Kobe. Excellent stuff! :thumb:

We did not however appreciate the yakisoba shop that offered ketchup and mustard as standard toppings alongside kewpie mayo.

How did I miss the smoker talk?! Smoker season is right around the corner. Time to bust the Rec Tec out
Hell yea. I was looking between camp chef and the RT-590. Passed on the 590 because of Camp Chef's side attachments. Both super quality though.

Trying to get a longer smoke in here next week when it hits 50 out.

I am smoking two whole chickens today on the smoker. Decided to spatchcock them, yuck process.

Act like an adult and cut the spine out and break the breastbone. No biggie.

Just picked up a new BK carbon steel fry pan from Sur La Table. Price is listed as $49.99 for the 10" model, but I was only charged $29 for it at checkout. (Not sure if that's a store-specific price or what) Even at full freight I think that's a great deal. I've only cooked two things in it so far, but they were glazed carrots and eggs. Both things could cause problems, but were handled nicely by the BK.

I had a carbon pan by Made*In that I threw away after a few months; terrible ergo on the handle that encouraged wanting to not ever actually use the pan, and the seasoning was uneven after repeated touch ups. But so far so good with this BK thingy. If you can get it cheap, it's worth a punt imo.

The GOAT Potato salad dressing, marzetti, has seemingly been discontinued. This is horrible news for the upcoming summer picnic season.

Surely there's a copycat recipe online?

It's still listed on the Marzetti website. Could it be a supply-chain-shortage thing?

People use pre-packaged potato salad dressing?

I prefer the Alton Brown "Cold-Fashioned Potato Salad" recipe. Soaking the potatoes in vinegar overnight gives a major change in flavor.

Ditto. Though, I omit cornichons because I’m not a fan.

I tried making my own once and the difference was negligible so I stuck to just buying from a jar.

Kudos to chef Trevor Teich at Claudia for receiving one star in the 2022 Michelin Guide for Chicago. Chef Trevor is long-time friend of ChefSteps (goes back like 10 years) and member of Cook With Joule on the Facebooks. So keep your eyes peeled for his contributions.

I'm also looking into buying a smoker. Pellet seems like the way to go. I think I need to go with a vertical so that I don't take up too much more patio space. Thoughts on this one?

If I was in the market for a new one that'd be what I bought. That said the belly/traeger style ones double as a grill, at least the one I have.

Yeah, I don't really need another grill. I probably use my griddle 90% of the time instead of the grill that I already have.
