Made a new recipe that was good tonight for supper.

A can of Rotel diced tomatoes/green chilies
Fat pinch of Tony Chachere's creole seasoning
A couple sliced links of Comeaux's Cajun Pork Andoullie sausage

All cooked on low together in a sauce pan for about 15 minutes.

Then placed on a base of grits topped with shredded cheese.

Add a piece of garlic bread on the side.
I really wish I liked grits but I just can't come around to them

I set out to make red beans and rice but didn't have any red beans or rice. Substituted the rotel for the beans and the grits for the rice.

I eat grits pretty much every morning.

Anyone know what kind of pepper these are?

They're very fruity, and very very hot. I got 'em at the farmers market and plan to make some fermented hot sauce from them. One container is for sweet (peach or pineapple, haven't decided yet) and the other is for a more savory (onion, garlic, carrot).

They look like a large variety of cayenne or serrano.

Yes. Can't beat the consistency of rice rooker made rice. I have a 10+ year old Black and Decker that probably isn't made any longer, so I can't recommend a recent model. Maybe an instant pot would do the job?

I was going to say I feel like if you're gonna get a rice cooker you may as well just get an instant pot

My issue is that I often use rice in meals I make in the Instant Pot, like chili or various Indian dishes. So I need and use both.

Get a second Instant Pot? If you're gonna get another device, get one that's multifunctional?

It depends on how much you cook plain rice.

Uncle Roger approve.

Rice cookers are not taboo by any stretch of the imagination. A few visits to China confirms this is the proper way to cook rice.

TIL an instant pot makes rice.

I usually just use minute rice (flame incoming)

yes but think of all those rice flavors absorbed by the microwave when using minute rice

That’s kind of what I was thinking.

My kids love rice and we usually cook it 2-3 times per week.

I recommend Zojirushi rice cookers. I have one of the induction heating models, and it cooks perfect rice every time. There are separate settings for sushi, white, and brown rice, among others, and you can also use it to make stuff like oatmeal, millet, and other grains. Zojirushis aren't cheap, but IMO are worth it.

The rice cookers in the Uncle Roger "Asian parent rice cooker" video are all Zojirushis, so they're Uncle Roger approved.

I'm kind of at a loss here. The house we just moved into has propane, I come from natural gas. Not sure what it is but I can't cook on this stove top. Same pans and food as before. Made eggs this morning. Absolutely scorched the cooking spray on medium heat, smoke everywhere. Okay, fine. Drop the eggs in and they barely cook. The whites are browned but the yolks don't seem to have a chance at stiffening up. This is bizarre.

Can't really help your exact situation, except to say switching from gas to electric gave me similar fits. I never really got used to electric after 4 years. Instead, I had a gas line run to my stove so I could buy a gas stove. It has made all the difference.

From doing research on camping burners years ago, I do know that different types of gases burn hotter than others, so I'm guessing this is your issue. On top of that, medium on your new stove may not be medium on your old stove. You'll have to play around to find the right setting for eggs.

My advice: Buy 2 dozen eggs and spend your next free morning cooking them 1 at a time until you sort it out.

The cooktop in our house has burners rated at 18,000 and 15,000 BTU, and the 3 'simmer' burners are 12,5. That took some trial and error.

I say this as a man that just paid for an iwatani portable stove with 15,000 btu, but what do you need that many btus on a day to day basis
