After watching Encanto, I decided to try my hand at arepas. Maybe I did something wrong, but not a fan. Kinda dry, and not much flavor. I guess that’s kind of to be expected out of cornmeal, salt, and water. I even made some stuffed with cheese. Little better, but not something I’d go back to. Much prefer tortillas.

One other thing that turned out really well in the air fryer: a baked potato.
I don't think it saves much time, but the skin was really crispy. I put oil on it (usually canola), as well as some kosher salt. Really worked well, and didn't need to heat the whole house up with the oven for two potatoes.

Gonna try this whole packing a lunch thing. Sous vided a package of hot Italian sausage and threw a packet of Spanish Rice a Roni in the microwave to go with it. Will see how reheating that goes

Does anyone have an outdoor pizza oven (e.g. Ooni, camp chef, etc)? I'm thinking of getting one with some gift cards I've gotten from Christmas.

We have a Weber kettle grill with a Kettle Pizza kit. I've gotten it up around 900°F. Friends have an Ooni, and it's pretty great; I kinda wish it had existed (or I knew about it, whichever is a more appropriate description) before devoting the real estate to an entire kettle grill.

My one buddy has an ooni and loves it... Tif's favorite (no... not Guy Fieri), Kenji Lopez-Alt put out a nice video where he does the Ooni Koda and the Roccbox right next to each other and gives his opinions on the two:

Home with the kid and tonight is cubano night for dinner with the mojo pork I made over the weekend. I was planning on just stopping and buying some bread at lunch time, but since I’m home with a sick kid, I may as well just make some.

I mentioned in the weather thread that I made venison chili for the first time. In fact, it was the first chili I have ever made. Very happy to say that it turned out delicious, I had no idea what to expect.
It was a sweet and spicy recipe that I got from a co-worker. It has a smooth sweet taste on the lips that immediately flips to a hot that burns out quick. I have a polish palate that cannot abide spicy food but this combination really worked for me, by the time you swallow the burn is over.
1 lb ground venison
3 14.5oz cans diced or stewed tomatoes
6 oz tomato paste
1 16oz can of chili beans
1 white onion
1 green pepper
8 oz habanero salsa*
2-3 fresh jalapeno (leave out if you don’t like super spicy, I did not use them)
Garlic Powder
Cayenne pepper (according to taste; I used Tones Six Pepper in place of this when browning the meat, but did put Cayenne in the chili itself)
2-3 tbsp brown sugar
2-3 tsp molasses
Brown meat with onion and garlic powder.
Dice green pepper and jalapeno pepper.
Drain stewed/diced tomatoes.
Add all ingredients to crockpot and mix well.
Turn crockpot on high, once bubbling turn to low and continue to cook for 2 hours.
I served it alongside some cornbread muffins and over elbow macaroni because that's how we roll.
* I used this habanero salsa that I found on the shelf at Giant Eagle:

Pretty similar to my chili recipe but of course with venison. Glad it turned out well, I'm sad my freezer hasn't been stocked with venison for a few years.
Salsa is different, I use red hot so maybe it gets close to the same spot. Definitely haven't ever tried brown sugar or molasses though, maybe I'll give it a shot next time.

Yeah, it's a really neat flavor.
That said, they don't sell small jars of molasses at the grocery I go to so I need to figure out what to do with the rest of this jar. First time I've purchased it in my life so its not like I have any ideas what to do with it.

Use it as an addition to bbq sauce for ribs and chicken. My parents’ neighbor has been doing this forever, and his bbq is always outstanding.Yeah, it's a really neat flavor.

Made some oven baked wings today using kenjis recipe. Always good. Opted for the oven over the air fryer because I had time and figured it'd heat the house up a little bit in the process.

I grow habaneros in my garden and am quite familiar with how much heat even a wee bit of them bring to the party. 8 oz of something billing itself as a 'habanero salsa' is, to use the modernist term, an metric f**k ton. That would be a lot of Tabasco.

Not all habaneros pack the same punch, and if it's just a little bit in a salsa, I can see how it wouldn't necessarily be incredibly spicy. I read some of the reviews of the salsa and they all comment that they like how it isn't blow your face away hot.
