Yep, went to ATT last year. No contract, but I pay off my phone over two years.

So depending on the phone that I get, I can do wifi calling (some places in my house don't get great service and drop calls regularly. Can I send/receive texts via wifi, or do I need to download an app for that?

All carriesr are doing the same thing with phones now. No one really does two year contracts anymore. You either buy the phone outright, or you finance it over 24 months and pay it off month by month on your bill. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile all do the same thing.. buy outright or split up the cost of the phone over the course of a couple years on your bill.
Hmmm...so youre paying full price for a smartphone? Is monthly data still like $30 for a couple of gigs? Is the bill beig offset with the cost of the phone no longer built in or are they just tacking on another monthly fee to pay for the installment plan?

In case anyone is interested... my basement gets zero service and I work in a giant concrete building that blocks reception rather well, and the wifi calling does in fact allow for calling and texting from my phone via wifi. At least on the Iphone 7 it does.

I typed out a really detailed suggestion/answer for you and deleted it when I realized it was an Android solution.

I have a note 4 and in the last week I've been not receiving random text messages. Looking back, I haven't deleted my text threads (140 some going back 2 years) and my SD card memory was about 95% full while internal had about 9% left. I cleaned everything up and unloaded about 5000 pictures to my external HDD. Do you think this could have been a reason for not getting texts?

why can't you delete photos off of a note 4 by removing the card and deleting them through windows? I have to click 3000 times on my phone to hit delete. this is crazy, correct?

With my Note 3 you just hold down one photo for a few seconds and a check box appears on all photos, you select the ones you want, and hit delete once.

Source of the post 3,000 photos of what? Dinner?
the 3000 was from daily pictures throughout 2015 of the family (I have 3700 for 2016 which is next). I upload every years to google photo and make albums for family to enjoy and then weed through those and make yearly hardcover family books in shutterfly for us to look through at the house. We've been doing it covering the last 12 years and it's really nice to have something physical to look through at the house.

That's awesome, I love those books. We did one for our engagement and wedding. The engagement one we got everyone to sign at the reception instead of a guest book, worked out great.

Should I switch from my grandfathered unlimited data plan + 550 minutes to the new unlimited plan? I am month-to-month now on an old phone and wife's iPhone 6s which we bought outright. Pros: I can get a new phone and lower my bill slightly. Cons: Wife is stuck with the iPhone 6s and (I Think?) we have to sign a new contract.

T-Mobile has a deal on wireless service $100 for unlimited LTE for two devices plus a third line free....the third line remains free as long as you keep the $100 plan.
Anyone here in Pittsburgh with TMobile? Is it good?
This would save me over $50 a month.

My Note 3 died.
It lasted 41 months.
I wanted it to last another few years, but the screen blanked out and it's barely responsive.
I wanted to be mad or upset that it broke, but I'm not.
I bought it at the nadir of my wife's battle with cancer, the point of which we weren't sure how many new phones she would have in her own future, if any. She won her battle, she outlives the phone.

Stupid phone. Great phone.

Ordered an S7. The 256GB mem card I got for the Note7 but never used will work in it. And now that I have my tablet I don't need a Note sized phone anymore.
