Living in Amish Country, there are more variations on that last name than I'd care to mention. In my experience, Shafer is not terribly common, however. Usually Schaffer, or Schaeffer.

So it should be "Shaffnutz"lol, it's Shaffer.

Good to know ... My long lost cuz...
Actually the family story was that when my great great grandfather emigrated from Germany it was Shaver, so they simply replaced the "v" with a "f". My mother was fond of telling people who asked her to spell her name that "it's the simplest way to spell it, if you take any more letters out it wouldn't be Shafer anymore"
