is there a source for that? or just yinzer speculation
My aunt’s ex boyfriend overheard Tomlin talking about it at Fat Heads.
He also said Tomlin didn’t leave a tip.

This is a good hire. You're attitude towards the hire is a good indicator on where your jaded level is currently at.

Interesting thing I did hear though. Smith was planning on bringing Munchak with him, but Tomlin nixed that. He apparently left on bad terms the first time.
Yea, heaven forbid I want to watch an exciting offense that can win a game, rather than play just well enough to have the defense try to win it.
We all want that, but not all of us will predict that based off his tone in an interview. My wife and I just watched Love on the Spectrum and those are some of the most emphatic and excited interviews I've ever seen (one guy even made sure his eyebrows were in the right place), but I bet they're horrible offensive coordinators.
Love on the Spectrum is pretty great. I think I saw there was a new season recently.

Let me rephrase, I was not saying because his interview was milquetoast it's going to be 14 points a game. That's bad on my part.

I just think this whole hiring, the process that Tomlin said wouldn't happen, etc. Happened - and we're here with no real excitement and change. Seemed as if the whole fanbase wanted to actually move to a more future style, pro throwing offense and we got left with this.

To protect bad QB play? Feels like Tomlin just outright lied about looking at what other teams do, when he interviewed two/three people and shut it down.

Smith is also coming in, but can't really pick his staff? From what I read they're retaining a lot of people from the Canada era? Why?

he said he wanted an outside hire with previous OC experience, right? what did he not deliver on by his own criteria?

Yeah, guy that works in the industry. My understanding is that the Smith camp was letting insiders know it was a done deal that same day it was reported that he interviewed. Not sure the extent of initial Munchak piece, that maybe he had floated bringing him back, or he wanted him back. But that Tomlin and Munchak were not getting along at the end, and their relationship is the reason Munchak did that weird lateral move when he left Pittsburgh.

He also said he wanted to look at how other teams do it - implying that potentially the scenario he was offering would have had a different outcome.

I guess that's Tomlin with the media though, maybe just never trust the guy unless it's getting near .500.

I think the last couple pages of the thread can be boiled down to Mork hitting peak Mork, and he's actually just now responding to Matt Canada's hiring from three years ago.

No, I'm peak mork because this team is middling, and they continued to be middling based on a premise that hasn't been super successful the past 10 years.

I'm interested in more playoff entries and *wins* than I am continuing to play scared .500 football. We'll see I guess, when they refuse to move on from Kenny, lose another year of TJ/Minkah, and they're right back where they started.

Ryan Tannyhill's best OC wasn't the guy that immediately leaped into my mind when they went prospecting, but as the week unfolded I've gotten more optimistic about Smith.

I'm less keen about them doubling down - firmly - on Pickett, but who knows. Maybe Smith is better at drawing maps to the bit between the numbers.

I have to assume that they think the can do for Pickett what he did for Tannehill. Tannehill scouting negatives lol:
Negatives -- Has some accuracy issues, makes his receivers adjust to the ball too frequently... A bit on the skinny side, could benefit bulking up 10-15 pounds... Has serious fumbling problems, fumbled 10 times in his career at Texas A&M;, had the smallest hands of any quarterback at the combine at nine inches...

Tannehill is terrible, that Smith made him look like an NFL QB is enough to make me encouraged that he'll at least make Pickett competent

Jason Kelce, who walked back his retirement, is a FA and the Steelers need a C. Let the speculation begin.

Jason Kelce can't walk back the fact that in football years he's Mesozoic.

Would I overpay for 1 year of Kelce if that meant drafting a C in the first three rounds and having him watch/learn? Yes.

Yeah I'm not sure how that tweet is saying he wants to come to the Steelers over anyone else. He is just saying he likes the name.

The decision is whether they think the kid from Oregon provides enough value at 20.

My podcast consumption indicates that the draft is rich at T, WR, and CB. Those are all arguably need areas for the Steelers, but I think Powers-Johnson is going to be a 10+ year plug-and-play C.

CB is likely a stop-gap FA and hope Rush or Trice work out, or draft Dejean, but he might be more S long term than CB (but that's also another need).

So, basically do you take the best available at perennial need areas (CB, T) or take an immediate impact guy like Powers-Johnson or Dejean at C or S.
