She fell from a path walking with some friends, not while climbing.

It would be like me getting killed moving my car from the paddock to the grid, instead of on track.

Shame.

Jean Kennedy Smith, JFK's younger sister, former Ambassador to Ireland and the last surviving child of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Kennedy, dead at 92.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/jean-kennedy-smith-departed

Never knew this:
As ambassador, she played a role in the Northern Ireland peace process. She helped persuade Clinton to grant a controversial visa in 1994 to Gerry Adams, chief of the Irish Republican Army-linked Sinn Fein party. The move defied the British government, which branded Adams as a terrorist.

She later called criticism of her actions toward the IRA “unfortunate” and said she thought history would credit the Clinton administration with helping the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern said in 1998 that “it is not an understatement to say that if (the visa for Adams) didn’t happen at the time, perhaps other events may not have fallen into place.”

still an insane sport. my SO does the indoor climbing with ropes and harnesses. the picture from the article doesn't show ropes so it must be from bouldering.
when I go in my SO's gym on occasion I'll watch the boulderers for awhile. I'm convinced it would still hurt if you fell to the mat from the top of the boulder.

Yeah, my Uncle was a climber until his ankles got too old, now he kayaks.

He tried to get me and my wife into it. No way my big ass was going to be hanging off the side of a mountain.

I am both surprised that Ian Holm was 88 and that he was only 88. Seemed like he was around forever. RIP.

Well played on that drop, Kaiser.

Didn't know Sir Ian was ill, which might explain his absence from the Reunited Apart LOTR episode a few weeks ago.

Tom Skerritt can rest a bit easier today, because up to now the cast of Alien had been dying off irl in the same order they died in the movie.

It's a shame he will always be associated with those the most because I loved Falling Down and liked Lost Boys, and Phone Booth.

He actually has a pretty impressive filmography, but that also means those films don't offer much by way of punchline opportunities. ;)
