As someone who got caught in the current, and knew what a rip tide was and how to escape, it didn't matter. Maybe if I trained to get out of it in addition to just reading about it, I'd have remembered. But in the moment, I forgot all logic and panicked to the point of exhausting myself. I didn't realize exactly how much danger I was in until many years later. At the time, I was mostly just embarrassed.
I hear ya man. Better to be embarrassed than dead. And I'm sure that some people hesitate to yell for the lifeguard because they don't want to be "that guy".

The most frustrating thing about rip currents is they are quite often visible from shore. You can see them before even setting foot in the water.

I had no idea he was 78 with dementia. In my mind he's still the coach of the Jazz.

That 90s Jazz team should have won at least one title. Talk about worst luck ever running into that Bulls team those two years.

RIP to Japanese pro wrestler, Hana Kimura. Suicide due to cyber bullying.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-52782235

Man, I'm really torn-up about this one. So a bit of backstory on this. There's this Japanese reality show on Netflix that's become a global sensation called Terrace House. Think of it like the Real World, but it's on the more wholesome side compared to standard American realty shows. Hana was a cast member on this most recent season, currently airing until the pandemic shut it down (the show airs while the housemates are in the house almost like Big Brother).

There was an incident on the show where one of her housemates accidentally ruined her ring gear in the washing machine, and she blew up on the person, and said some personal insults to him. Well the fandom started to vilify her nonstop on social media and it became too much for her.

Really sucks because I was a fan of the show, and liked her because of her ties to pro wrestling. She was one of the top stars of her promotion at only 22 years old. Probably the equivalent of WWE loosing Charlotte or Becky Lynch right before they made it to the main roster. She was likely on the fast track to being a star in the WWE similar to Asuka, and her generational ties to the business is similar to Paige's upbringing.

[Edit] Btw, the episode where this happened hasn't aired yet on American Netflix, since they wait months to upload blocks of episodes as opposed to weekly like in Japan or other countries. So I don't even know if they will air those episodes now, since watching those episodes will be exceptionally haunting now. It's quite literally the last months of her life played out on camera.

Aka Pat Tie for kicking a FG against Syracuse in the ‘88 Sugar Bowl (before CFB had OT) instead of going for the win.
