It’s Jerry Jeff Walker...and I’ll be surprised if many here have heard of him.

Thanks... Typed from my phone and auto corrected. He's highly esteemed in country songwriting circles.

Another Texas country legend gone... Damn. Billy Joe Shaver dead at 81.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/bil ... 04768.html

Norm Macdonald is known for being a huge fan of his. To the extent that he had him on his show a couple of years ago, which was very entertaining. Great interview.

Shaver’s hard-lived career classics included “Honky Tonk Heroes,” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Old Five and Dimers Like Me” and “Live Forever.” He wrote ten out of the 11 songs on Waylon Jennings’ 1973 outlaw country breakthrough Honky Tonk Heroes; Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley all recorded his songs; and in 2010, Willie Nelson called him “the greatest living songwriter.”

Shaver lived the outlaw lifestyle that others only sang about. In 2007, he was charged with shooting a man in the face at a bar near his home in Waco. The trial drew friends including Nelson and the actor Robert Duvall in support of Shaver, who was ultimately found not guilty

Damn it all. Eff off 2020. **** you.

A few years ago I had tickets to see Shaver at the (now permanently closed) Rex Theater on the South Side. The show was canceled at the last minute. I literally walked up to the Rex to see a sign on the door that said "Sorry, tonight's show is canceled." Shaver never got anywhere near Pittsburgh again.

****.

I lived in Boston when that happened. On his first shift of college hockey no less.

Great, brave guy.
