man, this Kornheiser and Wilbon discussion about Jim Brown and his life is really good. Obviously since Wilbon idolizes Jim Brown they don’t really talk to much about the abuse, but I thought their discussion about the other aspects of who he was to be very powerful. And also they touch on how other alltime great athletes are old and nearing the end of their lives

Tina Turner was the first real singer I liked growing up. She was a powerhouse.

Is there an adult contemporary hit from the 1980s-early 1990s that was more of a banger than this? I'm not sure there is.

RIP Saint Vitus bassist Mark Adams

Haven't heard of this band since my Black Flag, SST records loving roommate in college was a fan.

From the holy crap that person was still alive file... Ed Ames passed at age 95. My grandparents had his Christmas records. If you'd have asked in the 90's I'd have probably guessed dead.

I've never heard of him but he's quite the crooner. Were they Sinatra fans too?

My Dad's parents were more easy listening, Montavani oriented.
My Mom's were somewhat more hip.

But they all liked Ed Ames. He did have a very rich, distinctive voice.

If they ever do an award for the best moments in television, the trophy should be a bronze tomahawk.

RIP to C. Donald Bateman, at age 91. Don Bateman was an electrical engineer and the inventor of the Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) for aircraft, along with numerous other aviation safety systems including head-up displays, auto-throttle systems, stall-warning systems, and automatic flight-control systems. If you've ever watched an episode of Air Crash Investigation and heard the "TERRAIN ... PULL UP" warning going off, that's the GPWS system in action. Since it's introduction, GPWS has dramatically reduced the incidences of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) aviation accidents, and GPWS and Bateman's other safety inventions have likely saved thousands of lives by successfully preventing aviation crashes.

He'll probably hold all of his records until the AHL merges or folds.

RIP Sheiky baby. The dude became a meme in his later life thanks to appearances on Stern and his Twitter account, but in his day he was a top heel. There's no Hulk Hogan (jabroni) without Iron Sheik.
