Postby tifosi77 » Sun Apr 19, 2015 6:39 pm

The toughest loss I've ever seen was was my grandmother, who died of cancer in her late-60s while her mother was still alive. There are few things as soul wrenching as watching an old person openly weeping. Crikey, that was over 20 years ago and I'm misting up sitting here thinking about it.

I'm sorry, MiMH. That's a tough hand no matter how you look at it.

Yeah. Today is the 2yr anniversary of my grandmothers death. My Mom is still not taking it well. Of the things I gave up to go to Afghanistan having both of my grandparents die while I was gone (one in 2011, one in 2013) is really, really hard to deal with.

Cross-posting from the NASCAR thread, but RIP Steve Byrnes, beloved NASCAR pit reporter and studio analyst, at 56. There literally wasn't a guy in the garage that disliked him, and one of the reasons I got into watching it was that I loved watching his interviews and whatnot during the telecast. Add onto the fact that he was a genuinely good and positive man until the end, and this hit me harder than most "celebrity" deaths.

Yesterday morning, a fan tweeted him asking if he watched the entire race on Sunday, which was dedicated in his honor. His response?

Well, then you have one more reason to visit Northwest Arkansas! ;)

I visit Crystal Bridges regularly. Wal-Mart decided to pay the admission costs for the next X years, and the museum is very family friendly (and it has a big park with a lot of easy walking trails). Rosie is actually my "painting of choice" - I decided to snap pictures of my baby daughter in front of it to document her growing up. Hopefully I will generate some nice time series...

My wife's grandmother passed away today, in her sleep, at age 95. She lived a long full life. She was one of the greatest people I have known.

95 is an impressive age, my man. We should all hope to see as many days as she. Sorry for your and your family's loss, dude.

I hope I am long gone before 95 years old hits me. I would be miserable at that age, if I am even lucid.

That might be easy to say now, but what if you have a family one day? I hope I get to see every possible day I can of my childrens', and (hopefully) grandchildren's/great-grandchildren's lives.

Andrew Lesnie, the Oscar-winning cinematographer who spent more than a decade collaborating with director Peter Jackson on the six Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, has died. He was 59.

The Sydney native, who also worked with New Zealander Jackson on the remake of King Kong (2005) and The Lovely Bones (2009), was believed to have suffered a heart attack on Monday.

it will be fun to see how technology progresses as we age. Think about what body parts they can replace now and then think about in 70 years from now (I'll be about 95).

I bet an artificial heart was a ridiculous concept 70 years ago, imagine an artifical brain...

Just looked in here. Sorry to everyone that just lost a loved one.

I'm fortunate enough to still have my two grandmothers alive and well. One is 86 and the other 90, but you would think they were in their 60s.

Lost both of my grandfathers, one over 10 years ago, and the other over 20.

Can't lose the what you don't have. Seeing how distraught people get over it and knowing I dont have that issue is a silver lining.

I'm not going to be healthy when I am old. That's scarier to me than permanently sleeping.

Norman Rockwell actually bulked her up, to project an image of strength. She didn' t like it, thought it made her look fat. :D

this seems like a really odd viewpoint. i imagine most of the people would trade the brief feelings they have with the passing of a loved one for the X number of great years they had with their grandparents.

My favorite grandparent (I know, we're not supposed to have favorites, but it is what it is) died when I was 16. I wouldn't trade the years I did have with him for anything, even though it came with the pain of losing him.
