My dad's friends loved Mojo Nixon back in the day.

I can remember them blasting his songs as well as the X rated David Allen Coe on camping trips.

A protégée of both von Karajan and Leonard Bernstein, he ultimately became the Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. A post he held for nearly three decades, overlapping much of that tenure with his great friend John Towner Williams at Boston Pops.

RIP Paul D'Amato, who was most famous for his role as Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken in Slap Shot. He had been fighting Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a form of Parkinson's, for the last few years.

He was also the Green Beret in The Deer Hunter and his appearance in Slap Shot served as the basis of artist John Byrne's rendition of the comic book character, Wolverine.

He was 76 years old.

I had no idea Stacy Wakefield also had cancer. She passed away today, 5 months after Tim.

It's like they're 40 years ahead on the 'old couples pass away together' behavior. I'll admit to having an outsized sensitivity to cancer but this is the saddest thing I've heard in a while.

Statement from Larry David:
Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me. He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.”

Mark Giuliano, former FBI deputy director under James Comey died this past Saturday at age of 62. notable to me because he was my SO's boss's boss's boss. great guy, really cared about his employees. even wrote a recommendation for my SO to get into grad school in 2019. cause of death not immediately known but the guess is heart attack even though he was a 'gym every morning' kind of guy.

That is one inventor I definitely would not have thought was still alive.

Today is the 21st anniversary of my grandfather passing away. Dude was a huge impact on my life as I was one of 6 kids and his house was always walking distance to mine. While my parents were busy with my other siblings, I'd just pop over to hang out with pap. I hung out with him all the time and he taught me so many things. I was 17 when he passed and never really got a chance to talk to him about his time in WW2. I doubt he would have ever wanted to talk about it anyways.

I do recall that he kept a journal in his time with the Navy. I'd love to see if my dad still has that or knows where it is and read it.

This was the boat he was on in the pacific:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Stockham_(DD-683)

I have a picture of him standing next to the boat's scoreboard of planes they shot down, boats they sank, etc. Kind of wild to know that was less than 100 years ago, and how different American wars are today.

I thought I saw a release that said Virgil was actually born in 1951 and that he was 72 when he passed.

Yep. Which means he was actually 40 when he turned on Ted Dibiase, which is nuts. Dude was a carny til the end.

That's incredible. His family has set up a GoFundMe to pay for his burial. Jericho has donated most of the money. Every donor should get a picture with the gravestone.
