I feel a little bad because Panoz in general has always been a bit of a punch line in terms of the cars that were fielded. I was at PLM in 2010 when the Abruzzi was unveiled and then promptly DNS'd. It led to me meeting Boris Said in a bar that Friday night so that's something. That said I have been on track among some Panoz Esperante's and they're a hoot.

Can't think about ALMS and its legacy or Road Atlanta generally without considering Don. RIP.

How fitting that he'd pass on 9/11 when for many his front engined, flag waving LMP was the epitome of American ideas taking on the world.

This is probably my favorite picture of a racing car I've ever taken (Champ Car, Fri qualies, 2008 GPLB), the Panoz DP01. But as soon as I found it, it made me double sad.

It's with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that our very own @mikepintek passed away early this morning after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Pintek was 65.

It was at WKBO in 1979 that Pintek broke the one of the biggest stories of his career. In the early morning of March 28, Pintek and then WKBO traffic reporter Dave Edwards noticed that steam was not emanating from the cooling towers at the Three Mile Island Nuclear power plant in nearby Middletown, and that fire companies had been dispatched to the scene. Pintek’s call to the company to investigate the incident led to him being transferred to the main control room, where he confirmed that it was not a fire, but a problem with reactor number two. Pintek was the first to report the news of the incident, which soon became the most significant accident in the U.S commercial nuclear power history. The accident resulted in a number of changes and new regulations for the nuclear industry.

I listen to a lot of KDKA radio, and Mike Pintek was my favorite talk host. He will be greatly missed. RIP.

That's really sad... Kyle Larson wrote a nice tribute to him on Twitter. I've been meaning to get out to some of these sprint car races since they aren't far from my home in Lancaster.

He was the only member of the cast that had real military experience, serving in the actual Marine Corps in Vietnam and earning two Purple Hearts. He was also apparently a distant relative of Cab Calloway.

Fair winds and following seas, Sgt Apone.

Charles Poliquin, legendary strength coach and mentor to Gary Roberts, died Tuesday at the age of 57. He trained an impressive list of professional athletes, including Chris Pronger, Joe Nieuwendyk, and Al MacInnis, in addition to being credited with resurrecting Roberts' career from injury.

Is this a case of the guy who popularized jogging in the 70s dying of a heart attack while on a run?

From his wikipedia page: he was still performing. He had given a concert in September, in Tokyo.
