RIP Herb Kelleher, the co-founder and former CEO of Southwest Airlines, at age 87. Kelleher started Southwest in 1967 in the middle of the federal-regulation days, and he was only able to create Southwest because it operated as an intrastate airline wholly within the state of Texas, which meant that it was not subject to federal regulation. Kelleher not only basically created the whole concept of a low-cost airline, he also departed from the traditional "hub and spoke" system of other major airlines and went with point-to-point flight models. Southwest has been a template for just about every low-cost carrier since. Kelleher would be up there with names like Juan Trippe in terms of his impact upon modern commercial aviation.

from one of the Kids in the Hall
Bob Einstein was gut bustingly funny. In person or on TV. Super Dave Osborne was a huge star in Canada. And I mean that in the best way. I pray that his coffin is transported to the cemetery on top of a parade float that misjudges the height of an overpass.

I have fond memories of him from Letterman and his cartoon show.
Noted Letterman archivist Don Giller already put up an over two-hour compilation of all of his appearances on Late Night. That man (DG) is a treasure. He has every single episode of Late Night recorded.

1) Southwest is awful, so there's that.

2) That overpass joke re Super Dave is 100% on point.

I enjoy agreeing with tif. It's a nice respite from constantly disagreeing with tif.

I've gotten free beer (in addition to free luggage) on Southwest on a few flights.

Love Southwest.

Alfred K Newman, one of the last surviving Navajo Code Talkers from WWII, has passed away at age 94. There are now eight known surviving Code Talkers left.

My wife was supposed to meet him next month. He still has an office in her building and came in every day to check mail and write letters. She's pretty gutted, he was damn near God status there.
