That Kirk Gibson at bat in 1988 World Series is one of the greatest things - event and call - in the history of sports...

That, the Clark catch and Aaron’s HR

Pittsburgh native as well. Just wondering about him, actually. He had a great note in his Wright Brothers biography from a few years ago. Basically, he feared for the historians and chroniclers of the current age. The Wright family kept extensive journals and diaries, wrote letters to one another, and were the framework for his biography. John Adams and his family did the same, with the added insight that they knew they were important people.

McCullough was concerned that we don't really journal or handwrite letters very often. It's all email and social media, which is fine for some historical figures. Obviously, the Library of Congress is archiving governmental leaders' social media and emails. Probably tech leaders will be archived. But the equivalent of two bike builders from Ohio? Probably not archived until later in life. Plus, formats change, digital files are lost, companies merge and data gets lost. It was an interesting viewpoint.

Every time I fart Google makes a note in the data they're collecting about me. I fear too much will be known after I've gone.

Damn, that's a huge loss. I am a fan boy of his. It's incredible how good his first published book was (The Johnstown Flood) and he only got better from there. A man that truly loved and cherished history, and thankfully had the gift of prose to bring it to life.

RIP Olivia :(
Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 1992, at the age of 43.

She discovered that the disease had returned in 2013, before revealing in 2017 that it had metastasized to her lower back. The cancer subsequently spread to her bones, with doctors diagnosed it as Stage IV and saying there was very little chance of survival.

Despite enduring chronic pain, the bubbly Australian became an outspoken advocate for cancer awareness and for treating the disease with marijuana.

Jesus, 19 years between recurrences. We thought my wife was doing pretty okay when she made it six years.
