Thanks guys, it's been a rough week. Been trying to remember the good times and that he went out exactly the way he wanted, without having another round of extended pain.

Of all the things cancer-related that we've endured through the last 10+ years the only thing that has scared me is my wife hinting that she won't fight a third round if the time comes. I'm hoping it was something she said in the depths of anger and desperation but if she meant it I'll have to dig deep and develop the same stoic attitude Ronnie has. That's a powerful kind of love and respect to not selfishly want more, Ronnie.

That's really tough. One of my best buddies dad went through the same. Fought hard for 3 years or so, would go into remission, then it came back, and rinse and repeats, using new tests, etc. Finally, he said he had enough and just wanted to go. That crushed my buddy's family, but at the same time, they understood.

Like others have said, cancer sucks.

Yeah, I can see that being different, though. I loved my friend, and there are a single digit number of non-family people I cared about nearly as much, but he also wasn't the person I live with every day, with everything that goes with being someone's spouse, and or life partner.

I could see if my wife was going through the same thing being less, she got to go out on her terms and this is what she wanted, and more, omg what am I going to do, my life and her life have been the same for almost 30 years. I perceive that while he was alive, there was a point of contention between him and his wife about how he would handle it if he got sick again.

RIP Dr. David L. Mills, at age 85. Dr. Mills in 1985 invented a critical service that most of us benefit from every day, if perhaps unknowingly: Network Time Protocol (NTP). NTP is used to allow clocks of computers over a network to synchronize to a common time source. NTP now operates on billions of devices worldwide, coordinating time across every continent, and has become a key service of our modern digital infrastructure.

The New Yorker did a profile on Mr. Mills and NTP in 2022, which can be read here:

RIP Luis Vasquez of the post-punk band The Soft Moon.
Luis Vasquez, the California musician who recorded as the Soft Moon, has died. As Brooklyn Vegan points out, The Soft Moon’s social-media accounts shared the news of his passing this morning: “It is with great sadness that we announce our dear friend, Luis Vasquez has passed away.” Vasquez’s age and cause of death have not been reported.

Luis Vasquez was born in Los Angeles, and he grew up partly in the relatively remote city of Victorville. He started playing in punk bands as a teenager, before moving to the Bay Area and making music on his own under the Soft Moon name. A one-man project, the Soft Moon made icy, mysterious post-punk with a gothy edge. His self-titled debut album came out on Captured Tracks in 2010.

The kid from Pawn Stars died of an OD. Not Chumlee, Rick's kid.

I know it was just an Antiques Road Show for modern times, but some of the stuff on the show was pretty neat.

Pretty sure it was a different kid, not the son that was on the show.

Yeah, it was the brother that you didn't see on the show, not Corey.

No kidding, another death that can be attributed to a Patriots TE.
