Aw.......... Murphy was an icon. When he was brought on LOTR as unit director, they asked what kind of chair he wanted (as in director's chair), and he just pointed to a recliner in the office. So they lugged a faux leather recliner all over New Zealand for him to sit in while directing 2nd unit. When he wrapped, the special effects department rigged the chair up with pyro and let him blow it up on set.

Thanks, all. It's rough, but since we learned the extent of the stroke, it was going to be a matter of time, so it was not unexpected... Still stings of course.

He was a volatile dude. I remember he messed Mick Foley up so bad Foley couldn't chew food for a while. Had a reputation for being a very stiff competitor.

Was he big outside of Europe? I listen to a lot of different music but am shamefully devoid of early punk knowledge

Yeah. And here's another piece gone from the childhood of many here who grew up in the Pgh. area:

Sam Nover, at 77. Didn't he do that Steelers postgame show called "The 5th Quarter" with Derrick Gunn?

He was. Car was being driven by former Red Sox 3B Carlos Rivero, who survived.

Reports indicated the car they were in hit a rock before going off the road. Carlos Rivero, a teammate of Valbuena and Castillo who was also in the car, survived.

This is from someone allegedly in the know in Venezuela. A common tactic down there is to roll boulders into the road, and rob people after they stop/crash.
It was a car accident provoked by people living on the side of the road. There was rocks in the middle of the road, after the accident the people robbed them, even with the bodies lying on the ground
