RIP Evil Dave Letterman
Whoa! Link?

EDIT: Here's a poorly written, ill-informed link. Didn't know he was 63, so not as much "Whoa" as initially posted.

I thought he was still in the area, but it looks like he hasn't to Pittsburgh since the late 80s. Didn't seem like it was a grudge or anything; even he said it worked both ways.
For a number of years after the accident, Rivera would visit the Steelers’ locker room during their annual trip to play the Houston Oilers, but that tailed off. He hasn’t been back to Pittsburgh since the 1980s and has not talked to anyone from the organization or his former coaches or teammates in years. He’s not complaining.

“It goes both ways,” Rivera said. “I don’t get ahold of them either. I’m just surviving over here, trying to stay healthy.”

The death of Art Rooney Sr. in 1988 hit him hard. “The Chief” would accompany Rivera’s mother to daily Mass while she and his father stayed in Pittsburgh the months after the accident. He was sad to learn of the more recent deaths of Chuck Noll and Dan Rooney.

“He had that little smirk/smile or that smile when he looked at you and stuff,” Rivera recalled of his only pro head coach.

Noll kept in touch with Rivera some after he was injured. “We talked every once in a while after the accident and stuff.”

RIP to LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold. He was one of the city's great champions, and he did not deserve to meet his end there weeks after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

RIP Necco wafers, SweetHearts, and those godawful MaryJane peanut butter things.
The owner of the company behind chalky, colorful confections such as Necco Wafers and Sweethearts has unexpectedly shut down operations at its Massachusetts plant and hasn't said if candy production will resume.

The Boston Globe reports Round Hill Investments LLC announced Tuesday it is selling Necco brands to another manufacturer and closing down its Revere plant.

Round Hill did not identify Necco's new owner. The closure came as a shock to the close to 230 workers at the plant who say they were told to pick up their final paychecks Friday.

Necco, or New England Confectionery Co., is the country's oldest continuously operating candy company.

On an somewhat related side note: they were still issuing paper checks?

The world's oldest person, a 117-year-old Japanese woman, has died.

Chiyo Miyako died on Sunday. Miyako’s death was confirmed Friday by the government of Kanagawa, her home state south of Tokyo.

Damn guess she won't be in the episode 9.

Holy crap, this one came out of left field.

RIP Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler and Ferrari N.V.. He died this past Wednesday after unexpected complications following shoulder surgery for what is believed to have been cancer. He was replaced as CEO following an emergency board meeting last week, and had apparently been secretly under the care of a Swiss hospital for around a year.

RIP former WWF wrestler Nikolai Volkoff. He was in the hospital for dehydration. Kinda surprised that he was only 70.

This is a terrible day for pro wrestling indeed. Meltzer tweet below. Apparently Brian Lawler hung himself in his cell
Just to confirm, Nikolai Volkoff, Brian Lawler and Brickhouse Brown have all passed away. Very sad day for pro wrestling.
