Aww man... This has been one of my favorite historical quirks of all time. Still one living grandson left.RIP Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr., Grandson of the 10th President, Dies at 95
He and his brother, grandsons of John Tyler, were the third of three generations that remarkably spanned almost the entire history of the American experience.
A living person in 2020 whose grandfather wasn't born, but was ELECTED POTUS in 1841, still boggles the mind.
RIP
That's interesting, because I tend to have the opposite response. To me, it underscores just how young we are as a nation, and that things we colloquially think of as 'ancient history' really weren't all that long ago.A living person in 2020 whose grandfather wasn't born, but was ELECTED POTUS in 1841, still boggles the mind.
I've been in pubs in Europe that are older than this country.
RIP

I'd have guessed that Whitey Ford died around 1997.

Damn it, this sucks. Sunday Night Baseball used to be appointment television for me, used to love listening to him call games with Jon Miller. I grew up with them.Another baseball legend:

Bill James ranked Morgan as the best 2B of all time, and it is hard to disagree. He had a higher WAR than anyone else in the league during the 1970s.

Seaver, Gibson, Ford, Morgan and Brock all within just over a month
And none of them were from COVID right?
Edit: never mind, Seaver had a combo of Lewy body dementia and COVID

One of the most powerful scenes in LOTR is in 2 when Theoden mourns his son and says “no parent should ever have to bury their child”
I can’t imagine what that feels like re: Roberta McCain and John, especially when the son lives a happy and full life
I guess there’s a degree of melancholic poetry to it but still super depressing.
