Having to announce that a sophomore guard is returning thanks to their partnership with a NIL collective. What a disaster college sports has become.

The sad part is that announcement is not exactly binding. I’m glad he says he is coming back, but in this day and age guys come and go at any time.

Dayon Hayes to the transfer portal, as reported on Twitter/X/whatever from Hayes Fawcett from on3sports.

This is one of the guys that 412 Alliance had to work to keep after last season.

F all of this. What an absolute joke.

Transfers happen all the time in the spring but the fact that he was just paid a few months ago by Pitt's own NIL collective and still pulled this is beyond ridiculous.

I'm all for the players getting their cut of the ridiculous amounts of money the sport brings in, but this isn't what NIL was intended to be. This is completely unregulated pay-for-play, and whatever documents you sign today are apparently worthless tomorrow in the face of another offer.

To say nothing of how frustrating this must be for Pitt's coaches, this isn't fun as a fan.

Yeah. This stuff is ridiculous and one reason I’m losing interest in college sports. That and just the realignment that is ultimately going to kill off all but like 40 schools at the highest level.

Why would you need more than 40?

They’re not brave enough to set up a relegation system, but they should.

I mean it’s absolutely stupid to have usc, ucla Washington Oregon in the same conference as psu, Ohio state Nebraska. Or cal and Stanford with Pitt and Syracuse. Or Arizona and Utah with central Florida and wvu. And seeing the death of a 109 year old conference in a span of a week. And probably soon to be another one in a few years with the acc.

And having two conferences. Let alone the strongest conference wanting multiple guaranteed spots in a national playoff.

And it’s all football driven. So stupid a swim team has to fly 3,000 miles for a Wednesday night meet.

Football is a different beast than all other college sports and it’s silly to not treat it as such. Let them do their realignment/super conference stuff and leave the other sports out of it.

**** him too. I saw Hayes decided to issue an apology this morning because in his interview with the PG he said he was leaving because he didn't think the team could win this year. Maybe we'd have more wins if he bothered to show up against teams other than our worst competition. NIL deals should have some kind of binding restriction where once you sign one for the year (or sign a multi-year deal), you're essentially signed to a contract and can no longer transfer unless certain stipulations (like coach leaving) occur. If we're going to treat these turds like professional athletes, well not even professional athletes have unfettered free agency. Hayes and DeShields both had large NIL deals with 412 Alliance and per the nut jobs on PantherLair, Hayes waffled for more money at least once and when he tried to renegotiate a second time he was denied.

The portal was basically just musical chairs at this point. So what if dashields transfers we’re going to find another guy that makes 60 to 80 tackles a year. we lost two defense ends that 4-6 sacks. These guys weren’t bad. I wish they didn’t leave. But we can find another guy from another ok program to produce the same amount.

But why can’t someone just stay with these ok programs? OK why does everyone have to switch so much chaos? Did John Morgan really benefit from that year in Arkansas?

Dayon Hayes to Colorado. So I guess it wasn't actually about winning.
