In completely **** news. Swaggerty’s wife was attacked by a rabid raccoon, sounds like she is in major decline. Rabies related deaths might be a top 10 worst ways to go.

Blake Cederlind released. I guess the TJ surgery failed. Ugh. The kid could throw heat.

Tomorrow is a big litmus test for both the Pirates and Cardinals. In years past, teams have used the Pirates as a springboard to turn their season around. This would be right up the Cards alley to sweep the Pirates and play .700 ball the rest of the season and win the division. Could the Pirates avert a similar disaster?

The Cardinals' rotation is very bad. not sure if this can be an inflection point for the Cardinals.
It's definitely not for the Pirates. I went through the Pirates minor league teams this AM. The indy team might be the hardest to assess. The team OPS overall is over .800. They have a clump of ~prospects hovering in that .700 - .800 OPS (Mitchell, Nunez, Gonzalez, Canaan, Endy, Triolo). Then there are a bunch of guys with ridiculous numbers (Palacios, Marcano, Matthias, Andujar) who (aside from Marcano) have proven that they don't belong.
I think there's one target for the end of this season, for those guys on the 40-man (Canaan, Mitchell, Swaggerty, Triolo). Need to get them some ML at bats. Can't have these guys taking up space anymore. Especially the former three.
And in a positive development, Solometo is looking studly, normally, this is when a guy pulls up lame and needs TJ. So if he avoids that, he could be a top 100 prospect by the end of the year.

For the Pirates, if it's just a way to hover around .500 all season that's all we can expect. They won't win the division. Whatever magic pixie dust was sprinkled on them in April has all faded away. Question is whether they are closer to a .300 team or a .500 team.
I still think they should bring Endy up after Super 2 is exhausted. There's no point in having him wallow in AAA when he's better than many of the guys on the 26-man right now.
And how Pirate of them to lose Sabol who may have been, if not on the ML roster this year, possibly a player for them in the future. Then Nunez gets enough Pirate stink on him to lose all ability to hit a baseball. It's amazing what our minor league system does to players. I fully expect them to draft Crews, he rakes for a couple months as they just let him "play baseball", then next year his bat develops a hole and he can't hit out of a wet paper bag.

I do fear that Sabol's success is going to open the floodgates on this team.
Their unprotected list is going to start compounding. This is a handy resource to get a handle on their R5 situation. Because of their quantity > quality approach to the international signing period, they have lots of R5 eligible guys scattered across the different levels, and with Sabol's success, you could easily see an organization taking a shot on some of these guys like Martin or Gorski.

Endy went ice cold for a few weeks. No reason to bring him up.

Blake sabols grow on trees. He's really no different than many of the guys you hate but for a couple OK weeks - used loosely as he strikes out in over 1/3 of his plate appearances.
Connor Joe is way better. It's not like sabol being 25 is a difference maker in that comparison for me either. MLB journeyman at best

Yeah, the pirates have almost exclusively been comprised of Blake sabols since 2016

Drew Maggi was suspended for three games down at Altoona. No reason given by the team.
