Borucki had thrown 15 pitches. No reason to take him out and if they leave him in they win that game.

No need to leave Selby in for 5 batters
This team never proactively gets guys warmed up in the bullpen. No one was warming up until Selby let 3 guys in. I don’t get it.

Kevin Newman 2.0. He has earned the chance though, so we'll see either way. It would be nice if a decent infielder emerged from this group outside of the bigger name prospectsTriolo has hit at every level and has excellent bb:k numbers. Idgaf about his babip, some guys just know how to hit

The Pirates lost to the Braves, Phillies, and Marlins, helping each team in clinching playoff spots. Interesting.

I had fun following this year. The beginning was a blast, the middle stunk, and once they brought up all the upside prospects the end was great. Hope they make the necessary moves to compete for a wild card. We all know what they are

Looks like the Pirates fired two minor league hitting coaches, including the one that helped Hayes this season. "Conflicting philosophies" was the reason.

Conflicting philosophies...
"Don't make our hitters better because then we have to pay them"
Conflicting just makes my comment more valid.

That should read "conflicting philosophies". Wasn't wearing my readers and didn't see the autocorrect.
Another reporter had some Pirates FO spin that the Nunnally help with Hayes only amounted to a handful of text messages. OK.

As KC already pointed out, DG was spot on with his prediction this year. This is the record I have of the predictions:
Troy: W+1 highest prediction AND 70-82
robbie: 102-60
genoscoif: 83-79
Ad@m: 80-82
iamjs: 78-84
DG66: 76-86
LL: 75-87
Faftorial: 74-88
ulf: 73-89
KC: 72-90
c2i: 72-90
Beveridge: 71-91
Gaucho: 69-93
dodint: 69-93
shad: 68-94
KTK: 68-94
Morkle: 67-95
Dickie: 63-99
skull: 62-100
Buncha pessimistic MFers in here.
Other random predictions that were made:
Ad@m and LL both predicted Hayes would hit 12+ HRs, with LL adding the caveat that it would take him over 450 ABs.
TL predicted they would start poorly , Suwinski and Castro would be sent to AAA and forgotten.
TL also predicted that Endy plus Mitchell , Swaggy , or Gonzales earn a spot for 2024.
KTK predicted Cruz (RIP) would hit 30+ HRs, Castro , Bae (eh maybe?), Suwinski , or Mitchell prove to be MLBers
KTK also predicted Oviedo (eh maybe?), Ortiz (eh maybe?) , or Contreras pitch well enough to be legit starters or bullpen arms.
Morkle predicted Shelton would get fired
I think KC already summed up a lot of my thoughts on the season. The midseason suck really sucked, but beginning and end was fun and full credit for the way they battled to the very end despite no hope of the postseason. Despite that, I'm still not sure about what to make of a lot of the players on the roster. Too many low and negative WARs (unfortunately led by Davis) for me to feel extremely confident about guys making a huge jump next year. Batters there at least seems to be a path forward, whereas starting rotation probably needs 3 useful FA signings to feel like they're taking things seriously. End of the day though, they were still 3rd from the bottom of the NL in runs scored and I'm not sure there's enough run producers in this organization.
Taking an extremely generic approach by looking at the median numbers for qualified batters, your "median batter" in MLB has 262/328/441/778 split. The Pirates average this year was 239/315/392/707. Only four batters (Suwinksi, Reynolds, Triolo, and Cutch) above that OPS median, with Hayes a close 762. If Hayes continues to improve along with Davis (100% necessary) and Endy (less necessary due to his defense) figuring out how to hit, I'll feel a bit more optimistic about things. Also, I know Santana was a major improvement over 1Bs of years past and it seems likely he'll come back for another season, but improving on his 235/321/412/732 wouldn't be a bad thing. I'd honestly give consideration to Andujar, Palacios, Triolo, or Insert Name Here in RF and tell Davis to figure out 1B.
