I think I read that Cherington is having Davis concentrate on catching going into the offseason and spring training. Cool? I guess?

That's the type of stupidity that makes me believe this franchise will never get anywhere. Dude should never see a catcher's mitt again in his life unless Endy and Delay are hit by a bus while walking into PNC Park on game day.

If Davis hits 30 dingers, I don’t care if they tell Davis to go sit on the buckets and shag foul balls and play with 8 on the field. Dude needs to hit. I don’t care if he doesn’t play the field at all

Seems like the perfect opportunity to move him to 1B

He appears shorter on TV than 6'2".

Yes to all. Its the perfect opportunity to move him to 1B and if it doesn't work out then he becomes a DH after what I imagine will be Cutch's last year. Davis being a success is predicated on him figuring out how to be a 25+ HR guy (plus someone else from that draft class panning out) and if catching a baseball detracts from his ability to hit then he can stop doing it. He also seems shorter than 6'2". I would have guessed 5'10":

Google says 6'2", MLB.com says 6'0". That sounds more accurate.

I was looking at Bell's numbers when they played the pirates the other day and saw his 22hrs and plenty of walks (63) and couldn't figure out why Joe had the better ops and even iso:nope:
247/339/421/760
247/325/419/744
It kinda turned me off of him. But he has much bigger potential and isn't cherry picking a platoon. He seems extremely streaky. The last 2 years stinking for 1 team and being very good for another

Platoon though. And Joe batted .165 with runners in scoring position. Bell was better but not great .680ops and 17 of his 22 hr were solo

Pending FA SP Jordan Montgomery priced himself out of the pirates FA range with this performance

Not sure how yinz guys can watch some of these playoff games and think the pirates are going to compete for a spot next season.

Zero chance. Keller is their best pitcher and I don't think he gets a postseason start for any of these teams. Not sure how yinz guys can watch some of these playoff games and think the pirates are going to compete for a spot next season.

Who’s performance prompted this though? Not sure how yinz guys can watch some of these playoff games and think the pirates are going to compete for a spot next season.
Wheeler cruised through a weak marlins lineup. Lefties couldn’t touch luzardo, but was in trouble all game and the Phillies lineup pushed his pitch count up.
The brewers just lost woodruff, they know they’re doomed, and their lineup has a bunch of no names.
I’d say the rangers and Phillies are the only teams able to make a run out of these wild card series

Hayes led pirates position players with 4 war. That would be 4th on Arizona. Corbin Carroll is two years younger than O’Neil Cruz, but we still don’t know what to expect from Cruz in the field or with the bat. Brew crew has a pedestrian lineup but still produces 8 more war than the pirates lineup. Brewers also have a better staff abut skenes should help balance that out.
I am envious of the Phils veteran lineup.

Reynolds has flatlined as a ~3 WAR guy, which is fine as he produces an .800 OPS and 20+ HRs
Hayes' WAR was also from just like 60 games, so there might be more in the tank.
If Suwinski is able to lower his K rate by 5%, he's a 4+ WAR guy
And I am also extremely optimistic on Cruz and Endy being able to handle those key defensive positions and provide offense (thus improved WAR numbers from those spots next year).
At the same time, BC is talking about making trades, I wouldn't be surprised if Suwinski is dealt

Reynolds can easily have a huge year next year. Someone with his skills it can just be a matter of staying locked in for an extra few weeks and avoiding any long slumps. Having a competitive team and a little protection can create that. He could still be an .850 guy for a few years.
His war will be stunted though not being in center anymore.
