What an dadhole. I've wasted so much money on the theory that "this guy has to hit another home run at some point" and he waits until I'm out of the country and can't put money on it.

I think if Cruz comes back and is reasonably effective at the plate and in the field, and Hayes keeps Hayesing at the plate and field, that would be an even swap. You're essentially going to get typical 3B offensive performance from your SS and vice versa. Problem is, there is no Cruz this year.

But it would be nice if Hayes could figure out how to hit though.

Fangraphs has him at 0.4 and 22nd of the 24 qualifying 3Bs in MLB. Offensive WAR of -9.1. 7th highest WAR on the Pirates and his OWAR is worse than Hedges. This isn't mediocre bat but his defense makes up for it, it's minor league bat but his defense makes up for it. The Cruz/Hayes position expectations swap is viable but Hayes isn't even a good hitter for a SS at this point.
