Went to the DMV last weekend to submit the documents for a Real ID. My license was up for renewal anyway, and as a lawyer I want to be able to enter federal courthouses without carrying my passport around. Two people in line ahead of me were turned down for not having their documents in order, so either the government isn't doing a good job of publicizing the requirements, or people aren't paying attention. I have a feeling that a whole lot of people are going to be turned away from domestic flights next October.

I got mine with surprisingly little issue. I bundled it with an address change and everything, which I thought would surely backfire. It's just the yellow star badge looking thing means I'm "real", right?

The Real ID requirements page on PennDOT’s website were clear and concise, so that definitely wasn’t the issue.

Did my first "Power Red" blood donation tonight. That was interesting. Lot more involved than regular donation but they give you saline and everything but your red blood cells back. It is basically the equivalent of three donors. You have to be A-, B-, or I believe

I've gone through the RealID process twice, and the two DMV offices I visited handled things in two different ways. The second time, I was also changing my vehicle registration to our new home address, and they accepted the temporary registration as one of my two proofs of residence. (Which doesn't quite seem on the level to me, but what the hey) I don't think anyone knows how any of this works.

I am A+ or else I would do this. I donate blood every few months, and have done for years, except during illness or post-tattoo embargoes.

I actually had a reaction to the anti-coagulant. The best way to describe it would be that tingly feeling you get when the weed first hits, in that moment where you want to suppress the anxiety that wants to come out and just chill. Tingly all over, especially the upper lip. Even more strangely, they gave me two Tums and that actually got rid of all of the tingles. Never would have guessed that would be the cure.

I donate blood every 6 weeks or so..and it gets thrown right in the biohazard bin. It's sad that it's not usable.

For those of you that are interested...it's actually really cool:
Why should you do it? You may already know about the ongoing need for blood and the importance of your blood donations. Whole blood donations contain red blood cells, platelets, plasma and white blood cells. Red blood cells are the most frequently used blood component and are needed by almost every type of patient requiring transfusion. If you meet certain criteria, Power Red allows you to safely donate two units of red cells during one appointment as an automated donation process. It is as safe as whole blood donation.

How is it different? During your Power Red, blood is drawn from one arm through an automated process. The machine separates and collects two units of red cells and then safely returns the remaining blood components, along with some saline, back to you through the same arm.

Save time and make your blood donation go further: If you are extremely busy, committed to donating blood and an eligible type O, A negative or B negative donor, Power Red may be ideal for you. Each procedure lets you give more of the product that is needed most by patients. Power Red (double red cell donation) takes approximately 30 minutes longer than a whole blood donation and you can donate approximately every four months.

Feel better: With all of your platelets and plasma returned to you along with some saline, you don’t lose the liquid portion of your blood and may feel more hydrated after your donation..

Went and saw Book of Mormon tonight and that was the funniest show I’ve ever watched. Entertaining start to finish.

My goal is to progressively buy larger decorations each year. Bought this 12.5’ tall ghost demon thing for $30 last year at Target after Halloween.

There’s a 20’ tall Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in my SIL’s neighborhood, and if I can find one at a reasonable price, I’m jumping on it.
